1 Overview
1.1 Presentation
This scenario describes how to create and configure extended cells.
The maximum range defined in GSM for the access to a cell is 35 km. Thegoal of an extended cell is to increase the maximum distance between the
BTS and the MS, without changing the Air interface, to 70 km. Two differentcells are combined in order to create the extended cell. One cell (ExtendedInner) covers the range from 0 to 35 km and another cell (Extended Outer)covers the range from 35 to 70 km.
According to the engineering rules:
For 9100 BTS, the extended cell allows for several non -hopping TRXs
Extended cells are supported only on 9100 BTS with SUMA
LCS is supported on extended cells
GPRS is supported on extended cells
Both GSM and DCS frequency bands are allowed for extended cells
3 extended cells per BTS are allowed: 3 times (inner + outer)
Multiple CCCH is not supported in Extended Cell.
1.1.1 Cases
The following cases apply:
C1: Create Extended Cell
C1.1: Create Extended Inner Cell
C1.2: Create Extended Outer Cell.
C2: Modify Single Cell to Extended Cell
C2.1: Modify Single Cell to Extended Inner Cell
C2.2: Modify Single Cell to Extended Outer Cell.
Note: You can combine different cases to create the required configuration:
To create an complete Extended Cell, use a combination of C1.1and C1.2
If one cell is already created, use a combination of C1.1 and C2.2 or C1.2
and C2.1
If both cells must be modified, use a combination of C2.1 andC2.2.
1.1.2 Options

O1
If the Extended Inner or Outer Cell has GPRS, useSet Cell Telecom Parameters to check and modify(if necessary) the GPRS parameters as follows:
MAX_PDCH, MAX_PDCH_HIGH_LOAD and
MIN_PDCH must have even valuesNB_TS_MPDCH must be set to 0 when the cell
type is Extended Inner / Outer
MAX_EGPRS_MCS is MCS4 for Extended
Outer and MCS9 is for Extended Inner
EN_NACC, EN_PSI_STATUS and
EN_STREAMING are disabled.
Note:If LCS was activated on thecell, and the operator wants to keep itactivated, do not set MAX_PDCH=0 on
these cells.

O1
To configure GPRS on a cell:
Set the Routing Area Code
Set the Routing Area Color
MAX_PDCH, MAX_PDCH_HIGH_LOAD and
MIN_PDCH must have even values
NB_TS_MPDCH must be set to 0 when the cell
type is Extended Inner / Outer
MAX_EGPRS_MCS is MCS9
EN_NACC, EN_PSI_STATUS and
EN_STREAMING are disabled
When GPRS is created on the cell, you can alsomodify the following parameters:
Min_PDCH
NB_TS_MPDCH
Max_Pdch_High_Load
En_fast_initial_GPRS_access
Ps_Pref_Bcch_Trx
max_GPRS_Cs
max _EGPRS_Mcs
En_EGPRS
If LCS with AGPS is activated, you can also modifythe EN_CONV_GPS, EN_MS_Assisted_AGPSand EN_MS_BASED_AGPS parameters.
To have EGPRS on the extended cell:
Both inner and outer cells must have EGPRS
declared (the EN-EGPRS parameter is set to
Enable)
All TRXs from inner and outer cells mustsupport EDGE (all TRXs are TRAs).
Note:
To have GPRS on the cell,
Trx_Pref_Mark must be 0 for at least
one TRX.To modify it for a block of TRX,use the Java Script Set/UpdateCircuit/Packet Mark ConfigurationUsing Script.
To modify only one cell, use the
edit cell command (see Set Cell
Telecom Parameters)
If En_fast_initial_GPRS_access isset to Enable, respect the following
rule:Min_PDCH >=En_fast_initial_GPRS_access +NB_TS_MPDCH.

To configure GPRS on a cell:
Set the Routing Area Code
Set the Routing Area Color
MAX_PDCH,
MAX_PDCH_HIGH_LOAD
and MIN_PDCH must have even
values
NB_TS_MPDCH must be set to
0 when the cell type is Extended
Inner / Outer
MAX_EGPRS_MCS is MCS4 for
Extended Outer
EN_NACC, EN_PSI_STATUS
and EN_STREAMING are
disabled.
When GPRS is created on the cell, you can also modify the followingparameters:
Min_PDCH
NB_TS_MPDCH
Max_Pdch_High_Load
En_fast_initial_GPRS_access
Ps_Pref_Bcch_Trx
max_GPRS_Cs
max _EGPRS_Mcs
En_EGPRS
If LCS with AGPS isactivated, you can alsomodify the EN_CONV_GPS,EN_MS_Assisted_AGPS andEN_MS_BASED_AGPS parameters.
To have EGPRS on the extendedcell:
Both inner and outer cells must
have EGPRS declared (the
EN-EGPRS parameter is set to
Enable)
All TRXs from inner and outer
cells must support EDGE (allTRXs are TRAs).
Note:
To have GPRS on the cell, Trx_Pref_Mark must be 0
for at least one TRX.To modify it for a block of TRX, use the Java Script Set
/ Update Circuit / Packet Mark Configuration UsingScript.
To modify only one cell, use the edit cell command
(see Set Cell Telecom Parameters)
If En_fast_initial_GPRS_access is set to Enable,
respect the following rule:Min_PDCH >= En_fast_initial_GPRS_access +
NB_TS_MPDCH.
