CRASH ANALYSIS OF MARUTI ALTO 800 USING ANSYS
An automobile body acts as a crumpling zone to absorb the energy of impact of a
collision. It provides most of the vehicle rigidity in bending and torsion and helps
minimize injury to the passengers in the event of a crash.
In this project, we design Maruti Alto 800 body in SolidWorks and simulate the
impact on car body upon frontal head-on collision and analyze the crash, making
use of ANSYS, which is based on Finite Element Method. The stresses and
deflections induced in different nodes of the car body are studied and suitable
alterations to the design are suggested.
As a first step, the outer frame of the car is designed and the simulation is
performed. Then, parts are progressively added and difference in stress
concentrations are studied.
