HEAD LICE

Tips for Preventing Head Lice

Check your child’s hair regularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’). Use a fine tooth ‘nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help chil-dren sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g. encourage reading, provide games, play a favour-ite show or movie, offer a head massage.

Tie long hair back, braid or plait if possible.

Consider applying gel or mousse. This does not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hairs from contact with other heads.

Avoid sharing combs or brushes.

Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g. when working at the com-puter with others, when playing, or hugging.

If your child has head lice please notify their teacher. For more information a head lice fact sheet is available from the school or visit:

http://www.public.health.wa.gov.au/2/261/2/head_lice_fact_sheet.pm

SCHOOL NEWS:

CHILDREN NOT RETURNING IN 2016

If your child(ren) are NOT RETURNING to Craigie Heights Primary School in 2016 (other than those in

Year 6), could you please inform the school office.

This information is important for planning and staffing for 2016.

Many thanks for your assistance with this matter.

Year 6 Transition

The Transition program for students attending Belridge Secondary College is about to commence. On

Tuesday 22nd of September, Alicia Holliday (2016 Year 7 co-ordinator) from the college will be visiting us

at Craigie Heights to address all Year 6 students. This is an opportunity for all students to get more of an

idea about life in high school.

There will be a half-day Orientation during Week 4 of Term 4 (day to be confirmed), only for students who

have enrolled at Belridge Secondary College. These students will attend school as per normal on that day

and will then travel to Belridge with Year 6 teachers on a bus provided by Belridge. A permission slip will

come home in Term 4 regarding this. This is also a reminder that if you have not yet enrolled your child,

this needs to be done.

A full-day Orientation for Belridge students will occur on Tuesday 8th December (Week 9). On this day

those students will go directly to Belridge Senior College and will spend the whole day there, along with

other new students.

Students that have been enrolled at other high schools will have their own orientation day and this will

confirmed by your new school.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE—DANIELLE EDWARDS

Our students in Year 3-6 have had the privilege of working with an Artist in Residence, Danielle Edwards. Danielle is a Graduate Diploma of Education (Arts) student from Edith Cowan University and has completed a 18 hour program with our students to create two unique artworks that reflect Craigie Heights coastal location. The students thoroughly enjoyed being part of this project and we thank Dan-ielle for her time and expertise. The artworks will be put on display shortly.

The Interschool Jumps and Throws was held Tuesday this week. Craigie students put on a great display

with many being placed. Stand out performers were Owen from Year 6 with a T-Ball throw over 58m, Jes-

sica Year 6 who has won the T-Ball throw each year in primary school and Charmondelae and Rhythm

who managed to tie for equal first in the long jump.

We are looking forward to a lovely 29°c for the Carnival at Beldon Primary School this Friday. Please en-

sure students have hat, sunscreen and plenty of water for the hot conditions. All parents and supporters

are welcome to attend.

Writing:

Writing

When I go into classrooms and speak to children about their writing, I’m pleasantly surprised at how many

of them like to write in their own time. It is a great way to spend some spare time; it can be relaxing and

allows students to be creative. A way to encourage this is to give them a special book that they can use

for their writing. Some ideas for writing are below:

1. Have the children write on top of the page: I Am Special Because….

2. If I was a super hero what kind out super hero would I be and what powers would I have (This can also be done using villains)?

3. What do I want to be when I grow up and why?

4. If you were given 3 wishes what would they be and why?

5. If I could invent a new animal what kind of animal would I make (i.e sounds, diet, where the animal lives etc…)?

6. If I could invent a new toy what kind of toy would I create and why?

7. All about me essay. Have children write about all their likes and dislikes.

8. What would do if you won a million dollars?

9. If you could change the world what would you do and why?

10. If you could invent a video game what kind of game would you create and why?

P&C:

We hope that you all enjoyed Craigie Heights Primary School Community Fete on Sunday! What a fan-tastic day it was – the sun was shining, the entertainment was superb, and there was so much to see and do. Our class stalls were amazing and it was great to see so many of our families enjoying the day. A day like this could not occur without a lot of very hard work and there are a lot of people I would like to thank. Thank you Firstly, I would like to say a special thank you to both Kaylene McIver and Michelle Finlayson – they both had the dream to host a school fete and set the wheels in motion. Your vision and hours and hours of hard work is greatly appreciated. Congratulations on a hugely, successful event for our school. Our fete committee of Kaylene McIver, Michelle Finlayson, Vicki Ellis, Jenie Elliot, Melissa Gordon, Kellie Nugent and Nel Tolliday– thank you for the many hours of contribution you have made, all the great ideas, planning and all the hard work you have done on the lead up to, and on the day. Your husbands and partners were also very supportive for this event and a special thanks to them too. A special mention also to Lisa Laker and Roz Lyon who were also involved with the committee in the organisation of the day.

Thanks to our P&C members who donate their time tirelessly to our school and fundraising efforts.

A great big thanks to Brendon Cook who volunteered his time on Sunday morning to check and certify that all the sites, rides and power were compliant. I would also like to thank Kaylene McIver, Emily Guildea, Shayne Dickson, Agnes Collins and Deanne Chester for their donation of talent, time, and products to provide our amazing signage to adver-tise our fete, our stalls and locations on the day.

To our Principals and all staff at Craigie Heights (Teachers, Education Assistants, Training Teach-ers, John the Gardener and Admin) – your class stalls were all a great success and we are very appre-ciative to your hard work into organising these. Thank you also for your time on Sunday and support for this event. To the Parent Reps – you had the hard task of making sure that your class stalls were manned all day and organising the rosters, as well as working with your class teachers to help with what your stall re-quired – thank you. To the volunteers - each of our stalls could not have been possible without you. There were a large number of parents that were there all day (from set up to pack up and all the time in between), and those that worked on numerous stalls during the day – thanks. To the students who performed on the day – we think you are so very brave to stand up and perform in front of a crowd and you were all fantastic. You make your families, and our school, very proud. To the students – thank you for all your hard work for your class stalls and help on the day – we hope you all had fun! To all of our families – your donations for raffles, class stalls and cake stall, as well as your contribution of time was what made the day possible.
