CRAFTON HILLS COLLEGE PRESIDENT’S BOARD REPORT Dr.Wei Zhou August 2016 We are the State Champions! CHC sent two student teams to the California Society for Respiratory Care state Sputum Bowl competition to represent Crafton Hills College Respiratory Therapy Program. More than 13 teams from all over the state competed, and our students won! The Sputum Bowl is a quiz of respiratory therapy knowledge, including visual tests. The questions are provided by the participating teams. Two teams are pitted against each other, Family Feud style, with the team who buzzes in first getting the opportunity to answer the question. Once during the competition, the team may “Ask an Expert.” During Finals, they can compose a posse of eight people to use one time if they need to “Call Your Posse.” Our students will now represent the state of California at the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) National Sputum Bowl Competition, which will be held in San Antonio, TX in October. CRAFTON HILLS COLLEGE PRESIDENT’S BOARD REPORT

Dr. Wei ZhouAugust 2016

We are the State Champions!CHC sent two student teams to the California Society for Respiratory Care state Sputum Bowl competition to represent Crafton Hills College Respiratory Therapy Program.

Once during the competition, the team may “Ask an Expert.” During Finals, they can compose a posse of eight people to use one time if they need to “Call Your Posse.”

Our students will now represent the state of California at the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) National Sputum Bowl Competition, which will be held in San Antonio, TX in October.

Easton Gully, Greg Guardado, Tyler Walker, Travis Sans, with Mike Sheahan, faculty.

The Wait is Over--Virtual Queue Coming

Long lines at Financial Aid, Admissions & Records and Student Life are coming to an end. Not because we have fewer students, (hardly!) but because Crafton is implementing a new virtual queue.

“The Qless app will result in better time management for our students,” says Larry Aycock, A&R coordinator.

With Qless, students can check-in online for the student services department they want to visit. Once

they check-in, the app will give them an estimated wait time. It will update them every 30 minutes and send them an alert to come to the department 10 minutes before their appointment. If the student can’t make it at their specified time, they can “re-queue” themselves to the back of the line.

“Students will be able to sit and wait in the Roadrunner Café, go to class, and even time their trip to campus for the least amount of waiting,” says Aycock.

Launching in August, the app will be available on the CHC website. Walk-in students will be able to check-in at the front desk of each department where they will be queued-up by staff. Computer screens will be posted in the Crafton Center which will display the queue and wait times.

Qless will also enable A&R to implement a short survey at the end of the students’ visit to gauge satisfaction with, and success of, their visit. This will provide valuable data for Admission & Records in their service area outcomes.

Diversity & Inclusion Events Planned for Fall 2016The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) program is a growing initiative aimed at intentionally educating and raising awareness of diversity in all of its forms through collaboration and advocacy. It is the program’s vision to “create an inclusive campus community where individuality is recognized, differences are celebrated, and everyone has the opportunity to engage, learn, and advance.”

The program was piloted in spring 2016 and seems to be gaining traction. With both student and employee programming, events take place on a weekly basis. D&I is currently led by faculty member Breanna Andrews with support from various other campus members. A Diversity and Inclusion committee will be established this fall in which faculty, staff, managers, and students will be invited to participate.
