cpmPlus Energy ManagerGeneral Factsheet
The cpmPlus Energy Manager is a modern Windows-based software package to implement real-time energy management solutions for industrial customers.
The modular solution provides an initial package of basic energy monitoring and reporting. This can be later expanded to provide complete optimisation of energy use and supply for the entire facility. For a corporate customer multiple facilities can be integrated to provide a company-wide solution and to allow comparisons, benchmarking and sharing best practices between the production facilities.
The configuration of cpmPlus Energy Manager and the main application modules are outlined in Figure 1 below.
cpmPlus Energy Manager provides seamless integration with ABBs System 800xA, and can be connected with other data sources through OPC connectivity.
The main application modules of cpmPlus Energy Manager are the following:
Energy Monitoring and Reporting - Module 1 Energy Load Planning - Module 2 Energy Optimisation - Module 3
ABB Consultings Energy team works with customers to install and configure cpmPlus systems. We can then help to exploit the powerful information provided by the system to reduce energy costs as part of our Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) programme.

Energy Monitoring and Reporting - Module 1
Measuring energy consumption of equipment is the basis for energy efficiency improvement. Energy Manager calculates energy efficiencies and provides easy-to-use visual tools for monitoring and targeting to identify in real time the areas where improvement is required. Functions:
Measured energy consumption Costs and energy efficiencies Setting targets for energy consumption Monitoring actual performance against targets Uniform report and display templates Customer specific reports and process displays Analysis tools to analyse energy consumption Alarms to alert operators to take action
Energy Load Planning - Module 2
The Energy Load Planning module calculates the predicted energy consumption schedules based on the production data and other correlating parameters. The consumption schedules can be sent to the energy suppliers or used as the basis for energy supply planning. Functions:
Calculation of predicted energy consumption Accumulation of consumer level specific consumption
patterns into total facility consumption Can predict several utilities per consumer,
e.g. electric power, steam, gas, water, oil. Predicted consumption is based on planned production
schedules and historical performance of the consumers
Energy Optimisation - Module 3
Based on the predicted energy consumption schedules, the Energy Optimisation module calculates the optimum use of supply resources to meet the consumption schedules at minimum total cost. Selected consumer operating schedules can be optimised based on energy cost. The Energy Optimisation module includes the following functions:
Optimisation of the use of supply resources to meet the predicted consumption at minimum total cost
Optimisation of running schedules for selected consumers based on minimum energy cost and given restrictions
Optimisation utilises a real-time LP / MILP optimisation environment and economic flow network, in which the energy process is divided into logical sub-processes which are connected to each other through a flow network
Optimises the complete energy flow network in real-time when any of the input parameters change, allowing the facility operators and management to maintain the most cost-effective operating mode in changing production conditions
BenefitsABBs cpmPlus Energy Manager can significantly reduce your site energy bill and increase productivity through identification of best practice opportunities in site utilities and processes, assessment of behaviours & practices and monitoring & targeting strategies.
