Golden Residency Permit Programme (GRP)

The Portuguese government’s new legislation (GRP), announced in October 2012, signalled the country’s

declaration to become a European leader in the “Global Residency” market. It has attracted attention fromnationals throughout the world wishing to have residency rights in Europe. In brief, the legislation allows forimmediate and legal residency in Portugal following a property investment of 500,000€ that confers the right to aPortuguese passport after six years.

The key benefits of this programme are:

• Minimum property investment of €500,000 can be on multiple properties and an investor can submittheir GPR application on obtaining a Promissory Contract with a deposit of €500,000

• An investor can apply for a mortgage on the amount over €500,000• A resident has the right to live in Portugal, has the right to education, to work, health care, and

 justice system

• To travel to any Schengen country without the requirement of a visa

• The minimum amount of time in Portugal is 7 consecutive or non consecutive days in year one and 14consecutive or non consecutive days in the subsequent 2 year periods

• Golden Residence Permit holders may apply for family reunification: Spouse and children under 18 years of 

age. Family members over 18, who are financially dependent
