HENRY JACOBS

Out of the 10th chapter of the last book of The Holy Biblecomes down to us a prophecy of a little book that would bewritten near the end of time, during the period to becomeknown as the time of Jacob’s troubles. When this little book isopened, “seven thunders shall utter their voices; and the mys-tery of God shall be finished.”

Out of the 10th Judicial District of the United States ofAmerica comes this outrageous, sometimes hilarious, littlebook born from the troubles of a Christian Spiritual Warriornamed Jacobs, whose bold management experiment to rede-fine organizational reality within one small university in LosPortales, New Mexico grew into a trial which began on the sev-enth day of the seventh month of the year of our Lord nineteenhundred and seventy-seven (7/7/77), involving seven days oftestimony and lasting fourteen years. Could this be the littlebook of the seven thunders that our voices utter?

This little book presents a new unified general theory of “nor-mal” behavior for a general readership, based upon a synthesisof tested behavioral theories, and the application of this newtheory to a new spiritual (motivational) interpretation of (i) theBible, (ii) the behavioral sciences, (iii) history, and (iv) worldproblems. This “peer-critique” edition will become Part I of thenext edition, with Part II of the next edition devoted toresponses by readers, so that the soul thunders of the brightestand best may be heard.

The mere reading and discussion of this book will improve thebehavior and quality of life of most readers, whether they agreewith any of it or not. It is the new theory, not the religion, that thebook is about. This is not a book about salvation. It is about testingthe spirits (motives) of ourselves and others and about spiritualdevelopment.

This research is financedby the sale of this book.

ECHOESby

ECHOES

GEORGEFORREST

BIOGRAPHYGeorge Forrest grew up during the depression and World

War ll, served in the USAF, returned to Bowling Green StateUniversity for his undergraduate work, then studied law atOhio Northern. To his writing he brings his experiences asfarmer, carpenter, factory worker, gandy dancer, teacher, attor-ney and Judge, as well as his activities of white water rafting, flying, camping and charitable work. Sue, his wife, and hereside in Tiffin, Ohio.

“Everyone should have the great good fortune that George Forresthas had to live a life so interesting and vital that it deserves a volumeof poetry. In this book is the record of a rich life indeed, from stokingthe stove of a country school to presiding on a judge’s bench over theplights of families.

George writes most appreciatively, with a keen sense of themoments that can turn a day from ordinary to precious – the word notsaid, the quick eye contact avoided or made, the constant change andplay between spouses or old friends. We should all learn how to makeour lives so rich from such common materials.”

Phil Hey–Briar Cliff–S.Falls, IA

“The generous permission of these poems is a great pleasure. Theycall for good nature, the recognition of a common world, and a carethat we live in it with others. After that it’s up to us. George Forrest’sstories are old ones but they are always new in the telling as are anythat ever matter. Everything is familiar, yet, as the title insists, allechoes far beyond its apparently domestic pattern. One can learn a lothere about what matters and what has to. I love the seemingly easy artof this work, which makes simple what isn’t and keeps a beat that bothteases and invites. If George played the fiddle, I’d never stop dancing.”

Out of the 10th chapter of the last book of The Holy Bible comesdown to us a prophecy of a little book that would be written nearthe end of time, during the period to become known as the time ofJacob’s troubles. When this little book is opened, “seven thundersshall utter their voices; and the mystery of God shall be finished.”

Out of the 10th Judicial District of the United States of Americacomes this outrageous, sometimes hilarious, little book born fromthe troubles of a Christian Spiritual Warrior named Jacobs, whosebold management experiment to redefine organizational realitywithin one small university in Los Portales, New Mexico grew intoa trial which began on the seventh day of the seventh month of theyear of our Lord nineteen hundred and seventy-seven (7/7/77),involving seven days of testimony and lasting fourteen years. Couldthis be the little book of the seven thunders that our voices utter?

This little book presents a new unified general theory of “normal”behavior for a general readership, based upon a synthesis of testedbehavioral theories, and the application of this new theory to anew spiritual (motivational) interpretation of (i) the Bible, (ii) thebehavioral sciences, (iii) history, and (iv) world problems. This“peer-critique” edition will become Part I of the next edition, withPart II of the next edition devoted to responses by readers, so thatthe soul thunders of the brightest and best may be heard.

The mere reading and discussion of this book will improve thebehavior and quality of life of most readers, whether they agree withany of it or not. It is the new theory, not the religion, that the book isabout. This is not a book about salvation. It is about testing the spirits(motives) of ourselves and others and about spiritual development.

ECHOES

GEORGEFORREST

BIOGRAPHYGeorge Forrest grew up during the

depression and World War ll, served inthe USAF, returned to Bowling GreenState University for his undergraduatework, then studied law at OhioNorthern. To his writing he brings hisexperiences as farmer, carpenter, facto-ry worker, gandy dancer, teacher, attor-ney and Judge, as well as his activitiesof white water rafting, flying, campingand charitable work. Sue, his wife, andhe reside in Tiffin, Ohio.

“Everyone should have the great good fortune that GeorgeForrest has had to live a life so interesting and vital that itdeserves a volume of poetry. In this book is the record of a richlife indeed, from stoking the stove of a country school to presid-ing on a judge’s bench over the plights of families.George writes most appreciatively, with a keen sense of the

moments that can turn a day from ordinary to precious – theword not said, the quick eye contact avoided or made, the con-stant change and play between spouses or old friends. Weshould all learn how to make our lives so rich from such com-mon materials.”

Phil Hey–Briar Cliff–S.Falls, IA

“The generous permission of these poems is a great pleasure. They call for good nature, the recognition of a common world, and a care that we live in it with others. After that it’s up to us.George Forrest’s stories are old ones but they are always new inthe telling as are any that ever matter. Everything is familiar, yet,as the title insists, all echoes far beyond its apparently domesticpattern. One can learn a lot here about what matters and whathas to. I love the seemingly easy art of this work, which makessimple what isn’t and keeps a beat that both teases and invites. IfGeorge played the fiddle, I’d never stop dancing.”

Robert Greeley–State University of N.Y. at Buffalo

With an eye for detail andan ear for dialogue, she has produced a vivid accountof growing up in a small town in the late fifties and earlysixties. Though the time, place, and personalities arespecific, the thoughts and emotions are universal.”

FORREST

BIOGRAPHYGeorge Forrest grew up during the depression and

World War ll, served in the USAF, returned toBowling Green State University for his undergradu-ate work, then studied law at Ohio Northern. To hiswriting he brings his experiences as farmer, carpen-ter, factory worker, gandy dancer, teacher, attorneyand Judge, as well as his activities of white waterrafting, flying, camping and charitable work.

George writes most appreciatively, with a keensense of the moments that can turn a day from ordi-nary to precious – the word not said, the quick eyecontact avoided or made, the constant change andplay between spouses or old friends.

Phil Hey–Briar Cliff–S.Falls, IA

“The generous permission of these poems is a greatpleasure. They call for good nature, the recognitionof a common world, and a care that we live in it withothers. After that it’s up to us. George Forrest’s sto-ries are old ones but they are always new in thetelling as are any that ever matter. Everything isfamiliar, yet, as the title insists, all echoes farbeyond its apparently domestic pattern. I love theseemingly easy art of this work, which makes simplewhat isn’t and keeps a beat that both teases andinvites. If George played the fiddle, I’d never stopdancing.”

“The adolescence of Blair Ellen Morgan, who attends thehigh school where her parents teach, is richly realized inthe complexities of relationships begun when she was 11,with the slatternly Odells, hill-country people who wereher aunt’s neighbors. Blair is a delight of paradoxes in herquest for ‘my special friends who mean exactly what I wantthem to mean…’ Higher Ground is heartwarming, funnyand sad, quite delightful reading.” —Publisher’s Weekly

“Everyone should have the great good fortune that George Forrest has had to live a life so interesting and vital that it deserves a volume of poetry. In this book is the record of a rich life indeed, from stoking the stove of acountry school to presiding on a judge’s bench over the plights of families.George writes most appreciatively, with a keen sense of the moments thatcan turn a day from ordinary to precious – the word not said, the quick eyecontact avoided or made, the constant change and play between spouses orold friends.
