Recently there has been much talk in the newsabout gun violence and how to protect ourchildren. Suggestions include dressing ourkids in bullet-proof clothing, and havingarmed police officers in the schools. Secu-rity is OK – even we have an officer at our mosqueon Fridays. But bullet-proof clothing for kids?Really? Where is our trust in God? In the U.S.,we are blessed to have freedom of religion andspeech. But talking about God is not encouragedin our public schools. Only after children werekilled at Sandy Hook Elementary did people cometogether in interfaith services to pray for them.Why didn’t they pray before? Who has rights inschools? Atheists and half-dressed girls.Condoms, alcohol, and drugs are easily found.This all seems hypocritical. After all, the UnitedStates is a pluralistic society founded on the be-lief that human beings have been “endowed bytheir Creator with inalienable rights” and whereall religions flourish. Separation of church andstate just means that there is not one government-endorsed religion. But our country is still verymuch based on the fundamental principles of God.Every morning in most schools, students andteachers all recite the Pledge of Allegiance whichincludes the words “one nation, UNDER GOD.”Why can’t we go a step further and have a quietmoment for students and teachers to pray indi-vidually, in silence, to connect with God in themanner and words each individual chooses? Aslong as we don’t connect to God, we will con-tinue to have problems. Study the Bible, Torahand Qur’an. If we put our trust in God, He willappoint guardian angels to protect us. There is ahadith that teaches us that anyone who recitesAyatul Kursi before bed will be protected all night.Another hadith teaches that when leaving yourhouse, recite Ayatul Kursi and angels will protectyou from every direction. We learn in Ch. 6 V. 61of the Holy Qur’an, “He is irresistible in watch-ing over and taking care of His servants. And Hesends upon you a guardian.” If we connect toAllah, are grateful, and do our duty, we will beprotected by His agents.

corner, beginning this year onthe evening of March 25th.Like Islam, Judaism uses alunar calendar which is whythe dates of Jewish holidayschange each year on theGregorian calendar, as do thedates of Muslim holidays. Al-though, I like to say that thedates of Jewish holidaysNEVER change. Just as Eidal-Adha ALWAYS falls onthe 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjahevery year, Passover AL-WAYS falls on the 15th dayof Nissan. For the Jewish

community, Passover cel-ebrates when God redeemedthe children of Israel from thetyranny of Egyptian slavery.Pharaoh was a ruthless, evilleader who failed to recognizethe humanity of all of God’speople. Because of this greatmiracle that God performedfor the Jewish people, theTorah commands us that weare supposed to refrain from“oppressing the stranger” be-cause we “were strangers inthe land of Egypt.” Jewswho truly follow God’s Torahnever oppress anyone andalso work hard to ensure thatoppression anywhere is chal-lenged. It is a major reasonwhy so many Jews were in-volved in the civil rights move-ment in the 1960’s in

America. The Qur’aan alsorecognizes the blessingsGod bestowed upon ourpeople by redeeming themfrom Pharaoh’s oppression.The Qur’aan states: “O mypeople! Remember theblessings which God be-stowed upon you when heraised up prophets amongyou, and made you yourown masters, and grantedunto you favors such as Hehad not granted to anyoneelse in the world.” (Quran5:20) And again: “O childrenof Israel! Remember thoseblessings of Mine withwhich I graced you, andhow I favored you above allother people.Continued on page 33,

Since Islam is here till eternity, it is ancientas well as modern and that is Islam’s unique

Oneness of God Almighty, the Day of Judgment andthe end of prophet hood are its ancient and absolute principals.The Sharia is old as well as modern for each era as well; mean-ing it fulfills the needs/demands of all times. It is an authenticrule of the Islamic Law that whatever is not declared Haraam(forbidden) is Halaal (allowed). It is apparently a vast field leftopen for all human beings. For example, haram things havebeen told to us and then the rest is halaal. In the Holy Qur’aan,Allaah SWT admonished the Jews for making those thingsharam that were declared halaal by Allaah SWT. Shaikh AhmadSarhindi (Mujaddid Alf Sani) has stated time and again in histeachings that we must stay silent (don’t argue) about the ar-eas wherein the Sharia is also silent and to keep in mind thatonly that action/thing is prohibited that which has been ex-pressly forbidden. In modern times, many people think (falsely)that whatever is not mentioned in Sunnah (teachings of theHoly Prophet SAW), is prohibited.


MEANING OF JURISPRUDENCE - The dictionary meaningof the word ‘jurisprudence‘ is science of knowledge of law. Ina generic or primary sense it includes the whole body of legaldoctrine. By law is meant civil law as opposed to other bodiesof rules to which the name has been extended by analogy. Ju-risprudence can therefore be defined as systematized knowl-edge of any subject of intellectual enquiry into or the scienceof civil law. There is lack of unanimity among the WesternScholars about the definition of law. Every jurist has given adifferent definition, some say that it is the order of the superiorto the inferior, some hold that this comprises the customs andtraditions recognized by the state, while others maintain thatthis is an outcome of the necessity and expression of the willof society. This difference is due to their different views re-garding the basic concepts of law. John Austin says, “Law isthat rule of action which is made by a ruler for his subjects.”He has real and objective view of law and ignores its ideal orjust aspect. This may be true about the Statutory Law but doesnot cover the Personal Law and those spheres of law aboutwhich the Statutory and Personal Laws are silent. Accordingto Salmond, law has indispensable relation with Justice.

As I sit to reflect for this issue’s ar-ticle, I am keenly aware of the up-coming Christian Season of LENT.This Wednesday many Christians willgather in their Holy Places and will leave with an ashencross placed upon their heads, for all to see. This willbegin a 40-day period dedicated to times of fasting, absti-nence, prayer and introspection. This sacred number 40appears in many traditions, and usually is associated withtimes of introspection, repentance, transformation andreconnection with the Almighty. For Christians, this marksthe 40 days that Jesus the Christ entered the desert, wherehe was tempted, entered into prayer and then left this wil-derness place to begin his public ministry. As those Chris-tians receive the ashen crosses, the priest/minister will say“Remember thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return,”or, “Repent and believe the Good News.” Both sayings arescriptural and remind the Christian of who they are, whothey should be, and where they are headed. Ultimately, arethese not realities that people of all faiths need to addressas they move forward during their earthly journeys? Aninteresting Christian tradition traces this Ash Wednesdaycustom to a time in the early church when only GREVIOUSsinners were called forth to receive these ashes and wearthem for 40 days, for all to see.

Kamal Saleem Rashad was born inJacksonville, Fl in 1957, and raisedin Gainesville Florida with hismother and grandmother. Hismother was not married when hewas born, but his father, whom hedidn’t know was his father untilhis last year of high school. He wasthere every day and was the malefigure in Kamal’s life. In December of1986, Kamal was hired as a Firefighterfor the City of Miami Fire-Rescue Dept.He was promoted to Fire Lieutenant in2000 and presently working as the Lo-gistics Officer assigned to the SupportService Division. During his 25 ½ yearshere, Kamal had the opportunity to workpart-time as Flight Medic for an Air Am-bulance Company and the opportunityto own and operate a Medical ExamCompany for approximately 5 years.He’s scheduled to retire from the FireDept in February 2015.

Off course, kill-ing them is a great blunder.-Do not get even close to asituation that would tempt youto commit adultery. It isshameful act and an immoralway that opens the door toother evils.-Do not kill anyone whomGod has forbidden, except for

just cause under the law. If anyone is killed unjustly, We havegranted the right of retribution to his heir. But let him not carryhis vengeance too far in killing the culprit through taking thelaw in his own hands. The rights of the victim is supportedand protected by the law.-Do not approach any orphan’s property until he attains matu-rity, except with the good intention of improving it.-Fulfill your pledges as you shall be accountable for your prom-ises.-Give full measures when you measure out anything, and weighwith accurate and reliable scale. In a group setting, it is sometimes diffi-cult for a sister to open up and share herconcerns and troubles; she may beashamed to discuss her troubles. How-ever, during these informal discussions,her honesty may bring a sense of relief toothers in the group, because they toomaybe experiencing the same situation orworse. So her openness allows us anopportunity to recognize that many of usface similar problems. When we all openup and share our issues, give each otheradvice, help each other with suggestions,this by itself is a healing for us and weconnect with each other in a more com-fortable way. It also eases the awkward-ness for future conversations. We shouldbe able to share our distresses with eachother, because there are instances in ourlives where we just need a “soundingboard”, or the consolation to know weare not alone in our situation. If we seeour fellow sister struggling with issues,whether it is physical issues, weight is-sues, family issues, financial issues; weshould be happy to offer our help andshare information, solutions and remediesthat we may have knowledge about thatcould possibly alleviate her from futuredifficulties and complications. At the sametime, we should be conscious of being atrusted friend and be respectful of pri-vacy and avoid gossiping about our sis-ters’ situation, unless she gives us per-mission to share it with others. The Mes-senger of Allah (pbuh) said: “A Muslim isa brother to a Muslim: neither he wrongshim, nor hands him over (to another). Andwhoso comes to the need of his brother ,Allah comes in his need ;and whoso re-moves a calamity of a Muslim, Allah willremove a calamity from the calamities ofthe Resurrection Day, and whoso con-ceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah willconceal his sins on the Resurrection Day”(Bukhari and Muslim). So let us consulteach other and share with each other ourexperiences so that we can strengthen ourbonds and influence each other positively,let us not desert each other in our time ofneed, for these may be tests for us all(and Allah SWT knows best). courage each other to do good deeds andkeep away from evil actions and thoughts.And the believers, men and women, areprotecting friends of one another, theyenjoin the right and forbid the wrong’(9:71)“No road is long with when there isgood company.”

Not only this is false, it is also very dan-gerous. For One, we know there is nocompulsion in Islam and it is fully sup-ported by the Holy Prophet SAW’s teach-ings, but it is being presented as hard anddifficult to follow. Second, this thoughtis escalating tensions among the manythus causing divisions among the Mus-lims. Third, and finally and most impor-tantly, it is causing a diversion from theimportant principals of Islam for the Mus-lim Ummah. Let’s keep in mind that inour lives, we perform Fard actions firstand Sunnahs after. After Sunnahs, fol-low Mustahabb (recommended), Mubaah(neither forbidden nor recommended) andthen Makrooh (disliked). After all these,comes the field of Haraam (forbidden).Now, think about these steps before weeven reach Haraam. Haraam are only
