Standard 1: Content

Overall Goals of the Course

This Course will introduce students to the basic principles of Biochemistry. This will involve :

i) Knowledge of the cell, the structure, function and interactions of biological molecules in

synthetic and degradative biochemical pathways.

Course Policies

Attendance:

Students are expected to be punctual and to maintain a quiet atmosphere conducive to learning in

the class. Attendance will be taken during each class meeting. A student should be present for the entire

class period in order to be marked present. If a student is absent from a class, an official excuse should be

obtained from the Dean‟s office and submitted within one week of returning to class. As per the

University Catalog, only three unexcused absences are allowed for this course. Subsequent absences will

entail a grade of F in the course. It is absolutely the responsibility of the student to keep track of the dates

of the absences and to submit the official excuses on time.

Exams:

There will be unannounced quizzes and four one-hour exams on the dates indicated in the schedule.

If a student is absent from a quiz or an exam, the student will earn zero points for that quiz/exam. No

make-up quiz or exam will be given. Note their scheduled dates and plan accordingly. The Final

examination covers all topics in the course.
