Music Therapy is the scientifically based therapeutic use of music for the promotion of emotional, cogniti-ve, social and physical integration and recovery. As an arts therapy approach, it has the potential to con-tribute to activation, stabilization and recovery in the context of prevention, acute intervention, and reha-bilitation. In both science and clinical practice, there is an increasing interest in music therapy as an important complement to standard care.Music therapists have been trained for more than 50 years in Europe. OUR PHILOSOPHY – EDUCATION, PRACTICE, AND RESEARCH UNDER ONE ROOF

Evidence-based practical know-how The MA in music therapy is an applied degree, imparting hands-on clinical competency as well as the research knowledge needed for modern music therapy practice. We are oriented toward the evidence-based practice mo-del and offer a strong foundation of psychology, health, and neurosciences. Our educational model enables our students to assess clinical issues criti-cally and deal with them competently.

Developing competencyStudents develop their musical ccompetencies for clinical work in smallgroups. The integrated clinical training guarantees experience in everyday practice as well as individual focus during training. In our teaching clinic the students apply their knowledge in direct contact with our patients and are guided by music therapy professionals. Through intensive self-explorati-on and therapeutic supervision we prepare them for the personal and pro-fessional challenges of in this line of work.

German Institute of Applied Therapy Research (DIAT e.V.)We have been passionately involved in music therapy research for about10 years. Many projects are conducted in our in-house psychophysiologicallaboratory, but we also collaborate with our national and internationalpartners. Interested students can work on an existing project and contribu-te to the development of research through their master theses.

STUDYING COMPETENCE – THE CORE PRINCIPLE

y Activating Teaching and Learning MethodsTo ensure that acquired knowledge will be retained, you are instructed using a practical approach (case studies, team projects, role plays and presentations).

y Competence-Based Methods of Examination From the abundance of assessment methods available (oral examinati-on, presentation, projects), we select the method that best reflects the relevant competencies.

y Subject-Focused 5-Week Blocks Instead of having to deal with numerous subjects at the same time, you can focus entirely on a maximum of two topics within one 5-week block.

y Close Professional and Individual SupervisionWe will guide you both professionally and individually throughout your studies and assist you in organizational matters. A qualified mentor will accompany you from the beginning of your studies. Moreover, you will receive individual coaching and professional guidance from our career service.

The CORE Principle – Competence Oriented Research & Education – places the acquisition of occupational competence at the center of your studies. This approach goes far beyond the delivery of theoretical knowledge. After your graduation, you will start your career with a great sense of self-confidence. Our students possess everything for a successful career: knowledge, competence, expertise and key skills. Our students are self-assured about their abilities.

Key Success Factors of the CORE Principle:
