In addition, students will continue to exploreimprovisatory playing and the interpretation of a “lead-sheet.” The course addresses all five strands of the Cal-ifornia Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards.Having a guitar at home is not required, but at this levelaccess to a guitar outside of school is helpful. Students who do not own an in-strument may borrow one from the school with the un-derstanding that the borrower insures the instrument.Each school may specialize in a particular instrument.

This course is designed for students to develop and re-fine their ability to read, play, improvise and composemusic on steel drums. Immersed in all aspects of music,they transcribe songs, sight-read accurately and expres-sively, and analyze music as to musical elements, tech-niques and use of form. They perform by themselvesand in ensembles a more complex repertoire of musicwith accuracy and artistry.
