CUSTOMIZED COURSE GUIDELINES

Classes are open to active Union Steelworkers Classes will be taken on the employee’s own time

Classes can only be taken once Classes where spouses may attend (with employee) are noted

If you have to drop, you MUST contact Career Development or you will get charged the class amount against your yearly limit.

* * * * * * Customized Class Limits * * * * * * Effective January 1, 2003, The Governing Board for ICD has put a limit on customized clas-ses of $2,000 per participant per year. What this means to the participant is in most cases, each participant will be able to take ap-proximately 5 courses per year. On an average, most classes cost $400 per person and basic computer classes run $275 and some courses cost more or less than others so each participant’s spending will be monitored. Also, there is a limit of 2 Limited Customized courses per year.

In addition to customized classes USW members are eligible for Tuition Assistance.

You may use up to a maximum of $1,800/calendar year (Jan. to Dec.) for an accredited school. Funds may be used for tuition, required textbooks and course-related fees. Funds cannot be used to pay for materials, equipment, or supplies. Approved Correspondence Courses may be reimbursed (upon proof of successful completion) for 50% of the tuition costs of up to a maximum of $900 per calendar year (applied against the $1,800 limit). You must receive a passing grade for all courses taken. Tuition funds cannot be used to pay for courses you fail or drop/withdraw. IF this happens, an appeal form must be filed and you must pay up front for your next classes. You must submit a copy of your grades/certificate of completion to Career Development upon

completion of the course, to be eligible for further Tuition Assistance Funds on a case-by-case basis.

Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund

In 2017, ICD will award seven $1000 scholarships to various children and grandchil-dren of steelworkers. The Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of Brother Fulimeni. Tino was a fanatic about ICD. His commitment and contribution are evi-dent in the success of the Career Development Program. The Fund is administered by ICD in Merrillville, IN. The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the scholarship drawing:

Applicant must be a high school graduate enrolled in college and beginning in the fall semester of 2017 or the spring semester of 2018 or a college student re-turning to school in the fall semester of 2017 or spring semester of 2018.

Applicant must have maintained, in the past, at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and can demonstrate this with a transcript if selected.

Applicant must be the child/grandchild of a steelworker who is currently eligible to participate in the Career Development Program.

ICD will accept applications in their office until the application deadline of Septem-ber 1, 2017. Please send applications to:

KODI Part 2 and Updates

This class is a continuation of KODI, we will work on tweak-ing and customizing Coeditor run more efficiently on any of your devices that you have installed KODI. In addition we will demonstrate the new KODI 17 Krypton changes. This class will also discuss any new and popular KODI add-ons that are recommended for your use. Prerequisite: Rasp-berry Pi, Fire Stick, Android TV classes or KODI knowledge.

Raspberry Pi Computer with Raspbian and KODI

This class will cover the latest Raspberry Pi Model. The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It's capable of doing everything you'd expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the Inter-net and playing high-definition video, to making spread-sheets, word-processing, and playing games. This class also covers the LibreElec OS enabling you to run the popu-lar KODI media streaming software and showing you how to stream movies, music, TV, and pictures. Android TV Box with KODI

The Android TV Box 4K turns your TV into a fully featured "smart" device. Anything a modern Smartphone or tablet can do, now your TV can do it too and do it better. Stream content from Netflix, YouTube, Skype, Amazon Video, and many others as well as play games, and download from the Google Play Store. Christmas Lights Using Raspberry Pi ***New Class***

While the holidays are approaching you may want your Christmas decorations to stand out from the rest of your friends and family. This class will teach you how to use your Raspberry Pi to program Christmas Lights connected to a controller and your Pi to change blink, or change col-ors, and adjust to music or to a timed sequence. We will learn how to program Christmas Light with your Pi and con-trollers. You will learn what lights, controllers, and pro-grams to purchase and use with the Pi to make this all hap-pen. Microsoft Word - Introduction

This class provides an introduction to Word for Windows. The student will explore Word, use the Office Assistant, learn basic document skills, use basic text editing, check spelling and grammar, and work with document views. The student will also learn how to print documents, envelopes and labels. This class also covers formatting documents. Tasks include character, paragraph, and document format-ting; setting tabs, indenting paragraphs, and using numbers and bullets. The student will also learn how to work with headers and footers, use section breaks, and use online help. Microsoft Excel Charting***New Class***

A chart is a tool you can use in Excel to communicate data graphically. Charts allow your audience to see the meaning behind the numbers, and they make showing comparisons and trends much easier. In this workshop, you will learn how to create different types of charts, identify the different parts of a chart type and be able to modify them so they communicate information effectively.

Microsoft Excel - Pivot Tables***New Class*** This class introduces the skills necessary for working with pivot tables. Tasks include creating, revising, and format-ting pivot tables, and adding pivot table fields. Students will also learn how to change pivot table layout, group pivot table items, and use pivot table calculations and multiple ranges.

Excel 2016-Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification

This course helps prepare students to take the Microsoft Office 2016 MOS exam: Exam 77-727 (Microsoft Office Specialist Excel 2016). The course has been found to meet the highest industry standards of instructional quality. The course covers all the content necessary to prepare for the Microsoft Excel certification exam. Students should have access to a computer with Excel 2016 software to work on assignments outside of the classroom. Assessments and exercises will be given in class to assess the knowledge gained in every subject matter covered. Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel recommended Dates: October 3 to November 28, Tuesdays for 8 weeks, ***No class October 10*** Times: 11:30 am-2:00 pm or 3:30 pm-6:00 pm

PC Building If you ever wanted to see how a personal computer is put together and save money by building your own, this course is for you! In this course individuals will build a computer staring from the ground up. Students who want to build a computer for their home may order computer parts with Z-tech and pay for the parts prior to the course. Z-Tech will provide a listing of computer part prices so you can stay within your budget. When you call Z-Tech and register for this course, an instructor will contact you to evaluate your computing needs and recommend the parts needed always trying to stay within your budget. By building your own com-puter, you could save hundreds of dollars and learn how to add, upgrade or repair your PC since you built it. The Ca-reer Development Program will pay for the instructional fees. However as indicated, if you wish to purchase a com-puter this will be your responsibility. Students who do not want to purchase a computer but want to learn how to build one are still welcome. Z-Tech will provide some computers for training. Basic Access

A database is a collection of data arranged for easy search and retrieval. Access 1 covers the basic terminology used with databases. You will learn how to create and modify a table, adding, editing, finding and deleting records. Learn how to create a select query and perform calculations. Creating forms using the Form Wizard and reports using the Report Wizard are also introduced in this class. So, do you have tons of passwords only to forget the one that you really need? We will begin by teaching you how passwords actually work. Then you will learn how web browsers store sensitive data.
