The Courier continued on page 6..... Property Tax Reduction e Gooding Rotary host- ed their first annual Cheese and Wine Fest, on October 22, 2015 at the Gooding Country Club. Chairman Kathy Stone and her com- mittee hosted a fun event for the entire community. The Rotary members would like to give a special thanks to Ballard Cheese and Glandbia Cheese, along with Thousand Springs, Cold Springs and The Crossings win- eries, for the cheese and wine tasting. All of the proceeds went to benefit the fundraising activities of the Gooding Rotary Club, the Gooding Ro- tary scholarship fund and the Gooding Volunteer Group, for their “play- ground equipment fund.” Rotary Club President, Sue Bolton, presented a check for $1,000 Becca Sli- man and Dallas Scoffield (photo to the right) of the Gooding Volunteer Group. The Gooding Rotary Club also gave $150.00 to the North Valley Academy School Orchestra, for pro- viding entertainment dur- ing the event. Receiving the check on behalf of the North Valley Academy were Terry Rothamer, a North Valley Academy Instructor and Diana Dewey, the Youth Orchestra Director (photo to the left). To help others celebrate the Holidays, the Gooding Rotary Club members also donated 250 Jell-O/pud- ding mixes, 250 Cake Mixes and 40 Turkeys to the Help- ing Hearts and Hands Food Bank, located in Gooding. Gooding Rotary Supports Local Projects After paying their prop- erty taxes on December 20, many residents may be wondering if there is any re- lief for those with a limited income. Help is out there. The Idaho Property Tax Relief Program, administered by the county assessor’s office, can assist qualified taxpay- ers in reducing their tax burden. The property tax relief program works on a sliding scale with the state paying a portion of the property taxes, up to $1,320 on the home and up to one acre, depending on the taxpayer’s income. This money will never have to be paid back but the taxpayer does need to apply every year. ere are three criteria to see if someone qualifies for the property tax reduction. 1. ey have to have owned and lived in their home before April 15, 2016. 2. eir 2015 income has to be up to $29,470. is is after deducting medical expenses. 3. e applicant has to meet one, or more, of the fol- lowing requirements on Jan.1, 2016: Skate in Fairfield e City of Fairfield is pleased to have their Ice Skating Rink up and ready for winter time fun. Don’t have skates? Don’t worry! e City office has a variety of sizes for you to borrow.
