Dear Exhibitor, As president of the Crosby County Livestock Show it is my pleasure to extend an invitation to you to attend and participate in our 2014 show. Your participation and support over the years has enabled our show to become one of the most successful county shows in West Texas. Your participation and enthusiasm creates excitement that pulls spectators to our county show. Plan now to attend and compete in the 2014 show and make this year's show the best ever. W.F. Wheeler Award This award is presented annually at the Crosby County Stock Show to one 4-H or FFA individual that has exhibited courteousness, helpfulness and sportsmanship throughout the entire year. All Crosby County Livestock Show directors will serve on the selection committee. The W.F. Wheeler award will be presented to the recipients on Saturday prior to the auction sale.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. ALL GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS... will be strictly enforced: such as entry deadlines and arrival of animal and proceeds. 2. ELIGIBILITY: Exhibitors must be age 8 as of show day, own and exhibit an animal under the supervision of a Crosby County Extension Agent or Ag. Science teacher, be enrolled in public or home school in the present year and not have shown in any other local county show and must be an active member in 4-H or FFA. No exhibitor will be eligible to participate in the Crosby County Livestock Show if they have participated in or have plans to participate in any other county show or any local shows that limits its entries to exhibitors from particular schools or FFA/4-H chapters, and the exhibitor receives money or prizes not to include ribbons and trophies for placings. This rule excludes jackpot show or any show in which all Crosby County exhibitors are eligible to participate. In such cases where the exhibitor(s) are from divorced or separated families at least one of the parents must reside in Crosby County, or the exhibitor is attending a school outside the county, but lives in Crosby County and have met all criteria concerning 4-H membership in accordance with and under the supervision of the Crosby County Extension Agent and planning to exhibit animals in Crosby County, may participate in the Crosby County Show only. No other county or local shows. Animal(s) must be housed in Crosby County or may upon special request be granted permission to keep animal(s) outside Crosby County pending approval the county agent, Crosbyton, Lorenzo, and Ralls Ag. Science Instructors, along with the president of the Livestock Association. 3. CERTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY: If a student is ineligible as determined by the school, or home school, then the student and the project are also ineligible. Certification of eligibility (home school) these exhibitors must abide by all general rules and regulations as exhibitors attending public school systems. Records provided to the state by parents or guardians concerning test grades, semester grades or any scholastic eligibility, should be available to the Crosby County Agents office prior to show date in accordance with eligibility rules. 4. LIABILITY: The show is not responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. 5. OWNERSHIP: All lambs, goats, hogs and steers must be owned by state validation deadlines - steers prior to July 1, lambs & goats prior to November 1. Hogs must be owned and validated prior to November 30th. All 4 species must be state or county validated to exhibit in the County Show. Fryers must be owned and validated at least 30 days before the show. 6. ENTRY: Entry fees for livestock projects are due on or before the time the project is validated. An entry fee of $12.50 for steers & heifers, $10.00 for swine, $10.00 for sheep, $10 for goats, $3.00 for rabbits, $5.00 for farm mechanics projects. All animals and exhibitors must be pre-entered on or before November 30; rabbit entries due on or before December 15. 7. ARRIVAL OF ANIMALS: Swine are to arrive prior to 4:00pm on Wednesday. Swine are to be weighed in starting at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday. Lambs and goats should arrive prior to 1:00pm on Thursday with lamb weigh in to begin at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday followed by the goat weigh in scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steers will arrive and weigh in beginning at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday. Rabbits will arrive at 8 am Friday. 8. NUMBER OF ANIMALS: An exhibitor may show and place a maximum of 4 barrows or gilts, 4 lambs, 4 goats, 2 heifers, and 4 steers, 3 fryer rabbits. Maximum number of breeding rabbits will be 1 entry per class/division. 9. SHOWMANSHIP: When an exhibitor has more than one animal in a class, the exhibitor may secure

assistance; however only boys and girls who are eligible and have an entry in the show will be allowed to assist in handling livestock in the show ring. An exhibitor must show his own animal unless sick or is excused by advisor or county agent. Showmanship will be judged by the judge of the specie being exhibited. Seniors 14 and older, Junior 8-13, by show date. Junior and Senior Showmanship winners will be awarded in lambs, cattle, goats, swine and rabbits. 10. STALL ASSIGNMENTS: Exhibitors and advisors will receive stall assignments from Department Superintendents upon arrival. No exceptions. 11. CARE OF STALL AND ANIMALS: All bedding will be supplied by the CCLSA. Outside bedding will be allowed, but must be same as that provided by the CCLSA. (ie. wood shavings) 12. REMOVAL OF ANIMALS: No animal will be removed from show barn without consent of superintendent and advisor. 13. WEIGHT: All animals must comply with class weights. You are allowed one re-weigh, if an animal is too light or too heavy to be in the show. There will be NO OTHER RE-WEIGHTS. 14. PREMIUM AUCTION: 59 swine, 30 lambs, 20 steers, 50% of goats not to exceed 10 and 50% of fryer rabbits not to exceed 5; will sell. Each exhibitor may receive premium on 2 animals (lambs, swine, beef or rabbits) in the premium auction. Steers, swine, lambs, goats and rabbits will be auctioned on percent (according to number of animals in one class). When an animal is pulled from the premium auction, the next animal moves up. No animal will receive premium unless listed on premium sheet. All floor bid animals will be shrunk 3%. 15. INTERFERENCE: The CCLSA will not tolerate any un-sportsman-like conduct or any violation of the rules by the exhibitor, parents, or advisors. The penalty for such inappropriate actions will result in forfeiture of all trophies and ribbons. 16. PROTEST: Any protest must be in writing accompanied by $25 and addressed to the Superintendents and President of the show. The present show directors will air this protest and if valid, refund the money; if invalid, the management will place the forfeit in the general fund. 17. If an exhibitor has more than 2 animals eligible for the premium auction, and does not notify the superintendent by 30 minutes after steer show as to which animal he wishes to auction, it will be left strictly to the discretion of the superintendents which 2 animals will be in the premium auction. Exhibitor must comply with superintendents wishes. 18. Any animal showing any sign of pregnancy will not be allowed to show. Exception - Breeding Heifers. 19. Premium auction will be held at Pioneer Memorial Building, Crosbyton on Saturday at 7:00p.m. 20. Method of determining weight for classes will be live weight (not shrunk weight) as done by official weigher. 21. The showing of unethically fitted livestock and the use of diuretics or any unapproved medication is prohibited. 22. Scales for the swine and sheep weigh-in will be rotated between the Crosby Co. 4-H and the three FFA chapters. 23. All exhibitors must participate in at least one of three designated work days to be eligible for the premium sale and or add-on money.

JUNIOR SWINE SHOW

Entry fee: $10.00 Superintendent – Tim Tiner Assistant Superintendents - Lloyd Arthur, Joe John Calderon, Gene Chappell, Jerry Diaz, Ed Logan, Robert Salazar, Mark Schoepf, Donnie Swink, Ronnie Voight 1. All entries in this department will be subject to General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby County Jr. Livestock Show except where they conflict with the Special Rules of this department, in which case, the Special Department Rules will prevail. 2. Barrows and gilts are eligible. Weight limits will be 155-270. NO TOLERANCE!! 3. Each exhibitor may enter, show and place a maximum of 4 barrows and/or gilts. 4. All swine will be classified on Wednesday 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the time of weigh in. Swine classified out of the purebred classes will be assigned to the crossbred class. Hogs will be classified according to the classifier’s discretion. 5. Weighing and assignment of weight class of all swine will be done under the direction of the department superintendent. 6. Class will be broken as follows: 1. 5 or more of 1 breed will constitute a separate breed classification. 2. 6-11 = 2 weight classes 12-16 = 3 weight classes 17-21 = 4 weight classes 22 or more = 5 weight classes

7. No artificial coloring or weight of any kind will be used on swine. Any violation will lead to immediate disqualification. 8. The champion swine of each breed will compete for Grand Champion. The Reserve Grand Champion is selected from remaining breed champions and the Reserve Breed Champion from which the Grand Champion was selected. 9. If a floor bid can be secured by superintendent for swine, it will be available for all persons wishing to sell animals at floor price. 10. Prizes will be distributed as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th-10th $6 $5 $4 $3 11. Showmanship - A minimum of 5 Junior and 5 Senior exhibitors will be selected to compete for showmanship.

12. Show Arena - Only the superintendent and his designated ring assistants are allowed in the arena area when the show is in progress. After animals have entered the arena ALL parents will not be allowed in the arena or behind the holding pens while classes are being judged. If any exhibitor requires assistance the superintendent, designated ring assistants or advisors will assist the exhibitor. Superintendent - Angela Arthur Assistant Superintendent – Paige Wing, Melanie Barrientos 1. All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby County Jr. Livestock Show except where they conflict with the Special Rules of this department, in which case, the Special Department Rules will prevail. 2. Breeding rabbits must be owned by Dec. 1. Fryer Rabbits must be owned at least 4 weeks before show. 3. Rabbits must have proper ear marking in left ear as set by the ARBA. 4. No sick or diseased rabbit will be allowed to enter the show. 5. Divisions and Classes will be divided as follows: Commercial Senior Bucks and Does (over 8 months of age) Commercial Junior Bucks and Does (under 8 months of age) Fancy Senior Bucks and Does (over 6 months of age) Fancy Junior Bucks and Does (under 6 months of age) Fryers (see #6 criteria from the ARBA Standard of Perfection). 6. Single Fryers - age limit is 10 weeks. Minimum weight 3 pounds. Maximum weight is 5 pounds. All rabbits must be weighed in the presence of the judge. Point schedule for judging will be used from the ARBA Standard of Perfection. Limit of 3 Fryers per exhibitor. 7. Each exhibitor may enter, show and place a maximum of 1 rabbit per divisions and class. Ex: You may enter in both Commercial and Fancy Division Senior Buck 8. To be eligible for rabbit showmanship, the exhibitor must have an entry in the rabbit show. 9. There will be no floor bid on rabbits. Exhibitors must take home all rabbits exhibited at the show. 10. Rabbit entries are due by Dec. 14. Entry forms can be obtained from the Crosby County Extension Office. 11. All concerns and complaints should be directed to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents. Any person or related persons causing a problem during the show by using unruly behavior or improper conduct, in the official’s opinion, that will affect the welfare of the show will be barred and all stock barred from competition.

JUNIOR LAMB SHOW

Superintendent - Ryon Swink Assistant Superintendents - Mickey Givens, Rueben Munoz, Steve Riley, Tim Tiner, Dusty Cornelius, Cris Munoz 1. All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby County Jr. Livestock Show except where they conflict with the special rules of this department, in which case, the Special Department Rules will prevail. 2. All lambs, with the exception of Southdown lambs, must weigh a minimum of 80 pounds. Southdown lambs must weigh a minimum of 70 pounds. There will be a maximum weight of 165 lbs. The judge will select lambs for placing based on the size demanded by packers and consumers. 3. Each exhibitor is entitled to enter 4 lambs in the show. Wethers and/or ewe lambs can be shown. 4. Classes will be provided in the following breeds: Grade Southdown (shows predominately Southdown characteristics), and finewool, and finewool cross, and medium wool. Finewool lambs must be Rambouilet or Merino or a cross between these breeds. Finewool cross lambs must be the first cross of finewool breeds and medium wool, medium wool breeds, include such breeds as Hamps, Dorset, Chevoit, Lincoln or Crosses of these breeds. 5. Classes will be divided as equally as possible into light and heavy weight classes. If there are 18 or more lambs of one breed, classes will be divided into 3 classes. If there are 28 or more lambs of one breed, classes will be divided into 4 classes. 6. All lambs must be slick shorn from knee and hock up at the time of showing, left to the discretion of the judge. 7. Lambs will be classified at time of weigh in and judge had discretion. 8. The champion lamb of each breed will compete for Grand Champion. The Reserve Grand Champion is selected from remaining breed champions and the Reserve Breed Champion from which the Grand Champion was selected. 9. Prizes will be distributed as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th-10th $6 $5 $4 $3 10. A floor bid will be secured by the superintendent for all persons wishing to sell animals at floor price. 11. Market goat show is open only to eligible Crosby County Junior Livestock Show participants. 2. All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby County Jr. Livestock show except where they conflict with the special rules of the department, in which case, the special department rules will prevail. 3. Validation: All market goats will be owned and cared for by the exhibitor from Nov. 1. They must be validated by your agent or teacher. 4. Weight Breaks: Goats must weigh between 55 and 115 pounds. 5. Eligibility: The show is open to any breed or crossbred, Ewes and/or Wethers. 6. Age: There is no milk teeth rule. 7. Horns: Exhibitors will be required to have horns tipped blunt on all goats. Tips cannot be any smaller than a dime. 8. Hair: Goats must be shorn slick, with no indication of blocking, to the skin above the knee and hock joints to include the head, excluding the tail switch. 9. Parasites: No external parasites will be allowed. If goat is found to have external parasites, it will be disqualified from the show. 10. Restraint: Exhibitors will be allowed to use halters or collars in the show ring. 11. Number of entries: 4 12. Prizes will be distributed as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th-10th $6 $5 $4 $3 13. Awards: Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Goat will receive Banner or Trophy 14. Sell: 50% of goats shown with maximum of 10 goats to sell in premium sale. A floor bid will be secured by the superintendent for all persons wishing to sell animals at floor price. 15. Superintendent - Marty Davis Assistant Superintendents - Nored Lane, Jamie McNeill, Tim Tiner, Regan Ware 1. All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby Co. Jr. Livestock Show except where they conflict with the special rules of this department, in which case, the Special Department Rules will prevail. 2. Exhibitors may show 4 market animals in this division. Heifers may show as market or breeding, but only one way. 3. The minimum weight on market steers and heifers will be 850 lbs. 4. There will be 3 possible divisions: British, American, European. A minimum of 3 head constitute a division. 5. Classes will be broken at the discretion of the superintendent. 6. Steers will be weighed and classified at 9:00 a.m. Friday and divided into classes by weight. 7. A maximum of 20 steers will be eligible for the premium auction. After all animals are weighted and classes are broken, a percentage eligible for sale from each class will be determined. Example: 40 steers weighed in. 20 ÷ 40 = 50% eligible for sale from each class. 8. Champions: A Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be selected from the British, American Cross, and European Breed Champion breeds. 9. A floor bid will be secured by superintendent for those wishing to sell non take home market beef animals. 10. If according to %'s less than 20 calves are eligible for the sale, 1 or 2 calves may be moved up behind the Champion or Reserve Steer. 11. All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Crosby County Junior Livestock Show except where they conflict with the special rules of this department, in which case, the Special Department Rules will prevail. 2. Heifers will be divided in classes based upon weight. 3. Classes and breeds will be determined by the number in each breed at the discretion of the superintendent. 4. All heifers will be take home exhibits, no heifer floor bid on breeding stock. 5. Grand Champion Heifer will receive a premium of $250.00 and Reserve Grand Champion Heifer will receive a premium of $175.00. Prize money will be as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th $15 $12 $10 $8 $6 $5 $4 6. Exhibitors may show 2 breeding heifers in this division. GUIDELINES FOR 2014 PREMIUM AUCTION Saturday 7:00 p.m.

1. Buyers will bid for the highest dollar per head for the premium on prize winning livestock. 2. Premiums on livestock will go to the highest bidder. 3. Premium bid does not include market value of animal. Premium bid is only that money which a buyer wishes to contribute beyond market value of the animal. 4. Ownership of the animal does not change hands. Exhibitors will own their animals before, during and after the premium auction. 5. Following the premium auction, exhibitors may wish to sell to packer at floor bid, take their animal home or sell their animal to a local buyer for slaughter or other use. 6. 4-H and FFA exhibitors may receive premium on only 2 animals through the premium auction. Others must be scratched if 3 or more qualify by their placing. 7. Packers will be present to bid on floor price for those animals to be marketed to the packer following the premium auction. The opinion rests with the exhibitor to sell to packer, take home or other. 8. Steer Breed Champions and Reserve Breed Champions do not move up in sale order. 9. Request for funds (bills) to the Premium Buyers and Add-On’s Contributors are submitted (mailed) no later than February 1st of each year following the conclusion of the Crosby County Livestock Show.

CROSBY COUNTY LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Deanna Logan - Chairperson FOREWORD: The Crosby County Livestock Association was chartered in the late 1950's by a group of people who were willing to give their time and money to promote the youth of Crosby County. Through the years it has flourished and many of the present directors and volunteers of this organization are the children and grandchildren of the original organizers as well as past participants in the Crosby County Livestock Show. It is in the spirit of these people and the support of this community that we offer this scholarship. 1. DESCRIPTION OF THE AWARD The Crosby County Livestock Association Scholarship awards 2 $1000 scholarships to be given each year at the end of the Crosby County Livestock Show. The award will be given in $500 increments over the first two semesters of college, applicant must be a graduating senior from one of the three high schools in Crosby County and an active member of 4-H or FFA. The first $500 will be given when the award winner presents proof of first semester completion of at least 12 hours with a minimum GPA of 2.5; the second part of the award will be issued after proof of completion of at least 12 hours for the second semester and proof that the student has maintained a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Should the recipient fail to enroll as a full time student in the following fall, or does not enroll; the scholarship will be awarded to the alternate. 2. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF RECIPIENT SCHOLARSHIP: the recipient should have been successful academically in a high school career with all indications pointing to a successful college experience. They should display an enthusiasm for learning and a sincere educational career. The recipient must have participated in the CCLS at least 2 of his/her 4 high school years. SERVICE: the recipient should display a willingness and desire to serve both in school and community. They should be committed to the idea of volunteering time and abilities to help others. LEADERSHIP: the recipient should display initiative in school and community activities. Student should exhibit the trait of a good leader, one that is willing to yield their personal interest for the interest of others. CHARACTER: the recipient should exhibit respect for others and should be actions, display such traits as integrity, reliability, honesty, responsibility, cooperation, courtesy, fairness and tolerance. PATRIOTISM: the recipient should show a genuine concern and respect for country and for the ideals upon which it was founded. 3. SELECTION OF RECIPIENT A selection committee will be made of seven members composed of one representative of the high school from each town in the county and one member of the Crosby County Livestock Association from each area of the county, the final member of the committee will be the chairman of the Scholarship Selection Committee an elected member from the Crosby County Livestock Association. Applications for the scholarship will be accepted until thirty days prior to the Crosby County Livestock Show; the committee will meet on a date set by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the winners of the award will be announced during the Sale of the Crosby County Livestock Show. The committee will pick three people with the first two to be the recipients and the third as an alternate.

Article VII Section 2. SHOW RULE CHANGES/AMENDMENTS The Board of Directors of the CCLSA may amend show rules. These rules must be submitted in writing to the Board of Directors. Rule changes must be sent to the Board of Directors by the membership no latter than sixty (60) days from the previous show. All rules received after sixty (60) days from the previous show will not be considered.
