EDUCATION AND POVERTY

prefaceThe purpose of the County Profiles is to provide a snapshot of existing conditions within each of the 13-counties in the Houston-Galveston region at the inception of the Our Great Region 2040. The county profiles will help establish baseline information that may be used to measure progress and change over time. The profiles do not provide strategies or recommendations. The profiles are a companion to the Existing Conditions Report that provides a regional level snapshot of the 13-county region. The Existing Conditions Report is available on the Our Great Region 2040 website (ourregion.org).

acknowledgementsThe Houston-Galveston Area Council is working with a broad based coalition to develop a regional plan for sustainable development for the 13-county region. The Our Great Region 2040 will be a long range plan to ensure the region is as good or better a place to live and work in the future as it is today. This plan will be build on local plans and initiatives to capitalize on opportunities and address the challenges faced by our region’s urban, suburban, rural and coastal communities.

disclaimerThe work provided as the basis for this County Profile was supported by funding under an award from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The substance and findings of the work are dedicated to the public. The author and publisher are solely responsible for the accuracy of the statements and interpretations contained in this report. Such interpretations do not necessarily reflect the view of the United States Government.

The content of this report has been gathered from a variety of sources that can be referenced in the data sources on the back page of this document. All maps were produced by the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
