TRiPS Commuter Stores and Treasury DivisionTRiPS Commuter Stores sell SmarTrip® cards, including Senior SmarTrip® and Youth Cruiser SmarTrip® cards, and can load passes onto SmarTrip® cards, and provide timetables.

How To TransferTransfers are only valid with the use of a SmarTrip® card. Ride On buses operate on more than 75 routes throughout Montgomery County. Most Ride On buses serve one or more of 13 Metrorail Red Line and MARC Stations in the region. Here are a few simple transfer procedures to follow.

Bus to Bus Transfers: Ride On or Metrobus to Ride On or Metrobus with a SmarTrip® Card: A “transfer” may be used by the person to whom it has been issued at any Ride On route at any Ride On stop in any direction. Transfers are “written” onto the SmarTrip® card. The transfer privilege is valid for two hours after boarding the Ride On or Metrobus (add $2.25 for the Ride On Route 70 Express or Metrobus Express and add $4.40 for Metrobus Airport routes).

Passes: Ride On honors the Metrobus Weekly Pass, Weekly Disabled Pass, the Weekly Senior Pass, as well as its own Monthly Pass and Youth Passes. All Passes are loaded onto SmarTrip® cards.

When you use a Metrobus Pass and want to trans-fer to Ride On, with the SmarTrip® card there is no additional payment of fare.

Ride On also honors the MARC Weekly and Monthly Passes and the MARC Transit Link Card (TLC).

Metrorail Transfers: Transfers from Metrorail to Ride On are credited with 50 cents toward the ride. SmarTrip® payment of $1.25 will be deducted. Ride On accepts Metrorail Transfers with a $1.25 payment from a SmarTrip® card for regular Ride On buses and $3.50 for the Ride On Route 70 Express bus.

Connect-A-Ride: Provides information and referral on special transportation resources and services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. For more information, please call: (V) 301-738-3252 (TTY) 301-881-5263

Call-n-Ride: Provides discounted taxi trips for low-income seniors, (67 years and older) and individ-uals with disabilities (18 years and older). For more information, please call: (V) 301-948-5409

Montgomery County Ride On: Seniors and individ-uals with disabilities ride free on Ride On and Metrobuses in Montgomery County from 9:30 AM–3 PM, Monday through Friday. Seniors must be 65 years or older and have a Senior SmarTrip® Card, valid ID or Medicare Card, and persons with disabilities must have a valid Metro Disabled ID Card. Senior Center Shuttles: A combination of curb-to-curb and fixed route transportation, to County senior centers. County residents 55 and over are eligible for this program, if they are within the service area for one of the centers. For more information, please call: 240-777-4980

Youth: Kids Ride Free Monday through Friday, 2 PM to 8 PM on all Montgomery County Ride On (except Express) and most Metrobus routes, Montgomery County residents 5-18 years old can ride free with a Youth Cruiser SmarTrip® card.

Youth Cruiser SmarTrip® Card Youth Cruiser SmarTrip® Cards are available for $2 at all County libraries, TRiPS stores, and the Treasury Division office. Bring proof of the child’s age and residency. Some schools also offer these cards. Check with your school. Schools only sell these cards to their students. This card also enables you to purchase Youth Monthly and Summer passes or to ride free during Kids Ride Free hours. (See above.)

Ride OnRide On, operated by Montgomery County Department of Transportation, serves neighbor-hoods, subdivisions, and main thoroughfares with more than 75 routes throughout the County. Most Ride On routes serve one or more of 13 Metrorail stations and 8 MARC stations.

MetrobusMetrobus service is provided by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Metrobus serves many communities throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

MTA Commuter BusThe Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) provides bus service on routes between Columbia and Silver Spring/Washington D.C., between Hagerstown or Frederick and Shady Grove Metro Station/Rock Spring Park and between Gaithersburg,

• Have your fare ready BEFORE boarding the bus and understand how to insert the fare correctly.

• Move to the rear of the bus so others may board quickly.

• Use headphones when playing your radio and set the volume at LOW.

• Stay behind the yellow safety line on the bus when you are standing.

• Allow the operator to drive safely by not speaking with the operator while the bus is moving.

• Take personal belongings with you when leaving the bus.

• As a courtesy, hold the rear door open for the person behind you when alighting.
