However, I feel much excitement too as I look forward to things to come, both for the Foundation and personally. I am so proud to tell you about the great board of directors you have governing the foundation! They truly have the best interest of the health system in mind. Since publishing the last newsletter, they have authorized the purchase of many items which have greatly enhanced the day-to-day lives of patients, residents and staff. From the payroll deduction fund (thank you employees), a lift for the care center, three ergonomically correct office chairs for staff at the clinic and care center, a commercial grade toaster for the care center staff break room (we received a rousing cheer when that was announced), a beverage cart for the care center and two electronic recliners for hospital patient rooms. With Giving Hearts Day proceeds, an intubation scope with video camera and monitor has arrived. Repair of the care center boiler was completed thanks to the joint effort of the foundation and a grant written by the City of McVille. The foundation board has also agreed to pay for a required upgrade to x-ray computer software and operating system and purchase two new mattresses for hospital patient rooms. Thanks to your generous gifts to the Tree of Remembrance Campaign, our hospital improvement fund has grown to almost $150,000 and the process of replacing windows in the hospital will soon begin, starting with the east, street side of the building as they directly affect patient care. Don’t forget, the foundation also holds money for hospice care and pays related expenses when they arise and funds scholarships for people pursuing careers in healthcare fields through the Nancy Sigette and Mavis Naas memorial scholarship funds. So you see, your money is hard at work! Finally, I am excited to tell you about your next Executive Director, Kari Haugen, whose biography appears herein. Your foundation will be in good hands under her leadership and direction. Thank you in advance for your continued support under Kari’s direction. Welcome Kari! Margo A. Thank you to thetable hostesses, those who donated prizes, the committee members, hospicevolunteers and staff for their time and dedication to this event.

About Altru’s HospiceHospice is a special kind of care for patients and families facing a life-limiting

Choosing a hospice is an important step. At Altru, comfortcare is the hallmark of our program and because we are your hometown hospice,we can identify community resources which may be of help during this time. Kari was born and raised in Willmar, Minnesota. Sheattended the Association Free Lutheran Bible School andNorth Hennepin Community College, both in theMinneapolis area, before transferring to Moorhead StateUniversity in Moorhead, MN. She graduated with aBachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

In 2001, she moved toColorado Springs and continued working in accounting fornon-profit organizations including Young Life and MilitaryCommunity Youth Ministries.

In 2007, she reconnected with Darrell Haugen, a friendback in North Dakota. They dated and were later married

Volunteering is something Kari has enjoyed from ayoung age, whether it was adopting a grandmother in thenursing home while in elementary school, serving as acandy striper in the hospital in junior high or gettinginvolved in Key Club activities when in high school.During college and again when living in Colorado, Karivolunteered as a big sister in the Big Brother Big Sisterprogram. She also served as a small group leader andbudget counselor through Crown Financial Ministries at herchurch in Colorado. Two and one half years ago, the NCHSF board ofdirectors felt very fortunate to have an applicant asqualified as Margo Burthold apply for the executivedirector’s position. Because she had lived and worked inthe area for so many years, she was well acquainted withthe people and communities served by the health system.

This familiarity with people combined with being self-motived made her a joy to work with and she has contributed muchto the foundation. All of the projects we have undertaken under her leadership have surpassed our monetary goals.

At the January 2016 meeting of the board of directors, we accepted with regret, her resignation due to retirement plans.

On behalf of the entire board of directors, I wish to thank Margo for her hard work and dedication. We wish her the verybest in her well-deserved retirement. May she and her husband Ron share many new and happy adventures in the years tocome.

I would be remiss in not thanking all of you too who have contributed so much to our foundation and thank you inadvance for your continued support.

Sincerely, Norma Trost, President NCHSF Board of Directors
