Gap Year Programs Gap Year Programs

Taking a year off before starting college.

“Gap years give kids the opportunity to figure out what they want to do with their lives, but also what they don’t want to do. And they don’t need a trust fund to make it happen!”

Most colleges are more than happy to let admitted students have a gap year, and will still hold a seat for that student for the following fall. Put another way, if a senior who has been admitted to college for Fall 2010 decides to take a gap year, they can contact the college and ask to defer admission for a year. If the college agrees (most private colleges are happy to do this, as well as some public colleges, but always ask), the student usually gives the college an enrollment deposit and signs a commitment to attend in Fall 2011. The student then pursues a gap

year, begins college the following fall, and all is well.
