Brother Knights,

Congratulations and thank you to all our Service Area Directors

and the brothers that serve in these service areas on the great

progress you have made so far, this year. I am really impressed

with the quality of the service projects and level of service you

are delivering.

Please welcome our newly elected Recorder Brian Donnelly and

his wife Diane. Also, welcome our new Culture of Life Couple

Joseph and Laurie Friend. Thank you for stepping up to the

challenges of service.

Recruiting new members is essential to the continued growth

and well-being of our council and the Order. Offering a man

membership in the Knights of Columbus gives him the oppor-

tunity to improve his own life and his community. Membership

allows him to experience the fraternal bond that Knights share

while growing closer to his family and his faith.

There are many men and their families that you meet or see

you in our parish. If you are active in our council service pro-

jects and parish ministries they see you and respect you for

your example of service, commitment and Catholic morals.

Take a moment to talk with the men you know and meet in our

parish; talk with them about the personal and spiritual fulfil-

ment you receive from your service. Explain how the Knights of

Columbus values and our Council service projects help you

serve and grow as a man. Also explain that it doesn’t stop with

the man but that our values stress the importance of the family

as the Domestic Church of the Lord.

Then ask him to him to join our Council so that he can experi-

ence the fulfilment you do and the comradery of likeminded

Catholic gentlemen and their families.

Brother Knights,

.Knights serving the Parish was in full view during the 21 October Fall Festival. Everywhere you looked you saw a Knight helping with setup, cooking, selling drinks, food, prize tickets, tear down and cleanup. Thanks to all who helped in this event that raises money for the Parish but also creates a setting of community. The Council’s Youth programs are in full swing this month. Today’s youth are the future leaders of our communities and councils. Effective youth activities teach young people valuable life lessons on leadership, responsibility, morality and compassion. We are currently collecting “Coats for Kids”. Boy and girl coats in sizes from pre-school through teenagers are needed. New to near-new coats are accepted. We are requesting Council Knights buy a coat for a Kid and bring it to the November Council meeting for consolidation and delivery. If you can’t make the meeting, make arrange-ments with Howard Futrell or any Council Officer for deliv-ery of the coat. The Council is also conducting a Knights of Columbus Es-say Contest with our Faith Formation and Catholic School. The theme is “The Importance of Religious Freedom” and will open the doors of young minds, enabling the entrants to be creative, thoughtful and introspective in their work. The Council is also promoting to “Keep Christ in Christ-mas” with a poster contest for our parish Faith Formation classes. This is an excellent way to get our youth to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. As in all our programs, let the Youth Director, Howard Futrell, know you want to help out in administering these programs. Tony Panek, [email protected], 843 771-1532

Greetings Brother Knights, As we are approaching Thanksgiving and the holiday season, Iask you to take a minute to reflect on your ex-perience(s) as a Knight of Columbus. Have you made some new friends? Deepened your faith? Volunteered for something greater than yourself? We have a great council and assembly in our Knights of Columbus organi-zation, but they shouldn’t be a secret. Why not get out of your comfort zone and ASK a fellow Catholic gentle-man if he would like to join? I had been thinking about it for a while, and on a service Sunday, a Knight asked me if I ever considered joining. I filled out my Form 100 and took my degree a couple of weeks later. About 2 months later, I was able to take my 2nd and 3rd Degree, and in less than a year I attended the 4th Degree Exem-plification into full Knighthood. I don’t know why I was being hesitant, but I am thankful somebody had the courage to ASK me to join!

Michael A. Tarala

Greetings to my Brother Knights in Council 11910,

I hope that this newsletter finds you in good health and excel-

lent spirit. I have had the pleasure of meeting with many of

you during the month and have found the experience to be

enriching and of great interest in you and your families. I

would like to thank you for your willingness to speak with me

and your hospitality.

As we move forward I will be mentioning several topics of in-

terest that may affect your decisions as you plan for your

unique position in life. I, for one, would like to have had the

opportunity to utilize “life wisdom” several years prior to

attaining it.

As our population ages, averages become weighted to baby

boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) where many are in or

are approaching retirement. We all are accustomed to provid-

ing protection for our families in the form of automobile and

home insurance (my wife was rear-ended yesterday on Clem-

ents Ferry Road – not pretty). The national average for

those 65 and older that will need Long Term Care insurance

are 70%. This translates to median facility bills in our state that

amount to $200 per day. Long Term Care plans protect your

hard earned assets as this reality approaches and underwriters

nationwide are becoming more selective in insuring applicants

as our population ages. Also keep in mind that Medicare pro-

vides only 20 days of facility coverage and Medicaid is the larg-

est provider of LTC by far in the United States which becomes

active after nearly ALL your assets are spent down.

I look forward to my continued association with your council

and working together as we go forward.

Best Regards,

Michael Tarala, FIC, FICF

Brother Knights;

As we speak more about the domestic church and understand

our responsibility as a family member, our ability to teach

what we believe and practice what we teach becomes para-

mount. We say the creed each week at mass and profess our

beliefs as Catholics, but do we live and teach these beliefs?

At baptism, as parents, we state publicly that we accept the

responsibility of training our children in the faith we profess

with the Christian community. As the primary educators of

our children in the ways of faith, we never outgrow that re-

sponsibility.

As the primary educator, we must reflect on our religious in-

volvement that is lived daily in our family life. Religious educa-

tion must be integrated in everything we do and be natural.

My daughter who has two young children, gave her children a

candy corn and asked them what they saw. Naturally they

answered, “a candy corn,” she asked them to look closer, and

they still answered, “candy corn.” She then brought up color,

and they answered, “each one has three.” Her first teaching

on Trinity.

With our 7 children the one thing they picked up quickly was

inconsistency between what we say and what we do. There is

no question that our actions have impact and shape their life.

When it came to teaching traditions or our Catholic belief, Pat

and I had to be in complete agreement and our actions had to

reflect those teaching. Faith could not only be a Sunday

event, it had to be an everyday occurrence in all we did.

With the influence of today’s society and the availability of

information, we must maintain our emphasis on family sup-

port, togetherness and being Catholic. Unconditional love and

forgiveness is the center of relationships and will provide the

atmosphere for our children, their children and their chil-

dren’s, children.
