You can develop very sophisticated parametric cost models with

ModelBuilder. It allows a complex project to be broken down into

work elements (tasks), each of which can have independent cost

estimating relationships for three cost categories; labor, material,

and other direct costs. A powerful feature of ModelBuilder is thebuilt-in CER Solver, which automatically derives parametric cost

estimating relationships (CERs) from historical data compiled from

your companys prior projects. A graphical display of the historical

cost data and the CER make interpreting the results easy. You can

also take manual control of the CER coefficients if you prefer.

Estimator

Estimator is the second part of the CostMetrix suite. It lets you

quickly and easily create parametric cost estimates based on your

ModelBuilder cost models. It has an intuitive point-and-click

graphical user interface. Work elements are displayed in a logical

hierarchical tree. Checkboxes are used to select them for inclusion

in an estimate. Relevant parameters are displayed in a table so val-

ues can be easily entered and reviewed. Bid rates for each labor

category can be imported from an external file or entered manually,

and escalation tables are used to automatically adjust

material and ODC estimates for inflation to the mid-

point of the planned period of performance.

Work elements can be easily and quickly selected or

removed to tailor each estimate to the needs of the

project, and you can always see the current task and

total cost as the estimate is being assembled. You can

tabulate groundrules and assumptions with the esti-

mate, and use manual cost entries for cases such as

when suppliers or other organizations submit bids that

must be added to your cost estimate.

With Estimator you never have to manually write cost

estimate rationale or the basis of the estimate again.

With the click of the mouse, a detailed set of reports can

be generated to document the basis of the estimate, the

summary and detailed breakdown of labor hours and

material and other expenses, groundrules and assump-

tions, bid rates, escalation factors, etc. Then, if you make

changes to refine the estimate, the reports can be in-

stantly and painlessly regenerated.

Estimator also provides these powerful features:

a selection of charts and graphs to show the cost and

resource profile during the period of the project.

a cost risk analysis can be instantly generated toshow the range of cost uncertainty that can be ex-pected with each estimate.

Reports output directly to Microsoft Word.
