    VENUESThe XIX Commonwealth Games being hosted by

    India at Delhi, will be held across six venueclusters and six stand alone venues. In all, there

    are ten competition venues and forty-two trainingvenues, sixteen existing and twenty-six newvenues.

    The opening and closing ceremonies will be heldat the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which will alsobe host to athletics, lawn bowl and weight lifting.

    The stadium, originally constructed for the AsianGames in 1982 and named after India's first PrimeMinister, will boast a seating capacity of 75,000

    spectators post renovation for the games.

    KHEL GAON

    The athletes and team officials of the participating nations will beaccommodated at the Games Village, which is being developed along theeast bank of the river Yamuna by the Delhi Development Authority.

    The Village is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide unmatchedcomfort and hospitality standards to the participating teams. Developed at a

    cost of USD 230.7 million, the Village is spread over a 158-acre area. Itcontains 14 blocks, 34 towers & 1,168 air-conditioned flats that cancomfortably house eight thousand athletes & team officials.

    In addition to the housing, it will also contain training areas for athletics,swimming, weight lifting, wrestling & a fitness centre. Located close to allcompetition and training venues, the Village is surrounded by dense green

    natural cover, providing a relaxing environment for the athletes & officials.
