exceptional corrosion resistanceand low permeability to a widevariety of chemicals. Likewise,the technology of our inorganicproducts offers resistance to high acid concentrations andtemperatures through 2000ºF.

Sauereisen products are groupedinto six main categories—Coatings, Linings, Flooring,Polymer Concretes, Refractoriesand Mortars. Described in the following sections of thisbrochure, they are supported by several accessory products and an extensive technical service program.

Early in life, C. Fred Sauereisenreceived an excellent grounding in thermally conductive and electrically-insulating materials byworking with George Westinghouseon the first porcelain insulator. Ashe pursued his interest in ceramics,he founded Sauereisen Cement in1899 introducing a line of high-temperature inorganic adhesives.

In time, the acid-resistant nature ofthe cements suggested expansion

into corrosive applications.Sauereisen Cement first enteredindustrial markets by modifying itsspecialty cement formulations andusing them as chimney mortars in the power industry. Furtherdevelopment led to monolithicrefractories then organic coatingsand linings.

of construction. Our product linesoffer engineered solutions for nearly all chemical concentrations,temperature ranges and applicationmethods. COATINGS

LININGS

Sauereisen coatings and linings may beapplied by airless spray. Virtually all ofSauereisen products emit no VOC’s.

Because of their advanced reinforcement, Sauereisen liningsare a step above coatingsbecause they withstand signifi-cant physical abuse and are verylow in permeability. Typically,these materials are used asstand-alone linings in primaryand secondary containmentareas. These corrosion barriersare spray or trowel-applied at athickness from 40 to 125 mils.Specific binder systems availableinclude epoxies, novolak epoxiesand vinyl esters.

• FibreCrete Series—Sprayapplied fiber-reinforced epoxy linings

• SewerGard Series—Polymer linings formulated for municipal wastewater

• Vinyl Ester FibreLine—Fiber-reinforced vinyl ester lining

• Fast-Trak Lining—Monolithiclinings to protect tile structures

Applied by spray or roller, thesethin-film, resin-based corrosionbarriers are used as stand-alonecoatings or high-gloss sealantsover other materials. Typicalapplication thickness is 10 mils or less. Systems available include epoxies, vinyl esters, and urethanes.

• Urethane Glaze—High temper-ature coating/sealer for floors

• VEGlaze—Vinyl ester polymertopcoat

A wide spectrum of epoxies,novolak epoxies and urethanesare the products of choice basedon proven performance. Theresin-rich composition andunique filler systems are what setour materials apart. Under stan-dard application conditions, top-coating is not required toachieve ultimate chemical resis-tance. Sauereisen flooring sys-tems are also known for theirskid-resistance, appearance, andease of sanitizing.

These flooring products are all resin-based materials applied by pour-and-spread,trowel or roller. Food &Beverage plants, along withother chemical processing facilities, offer numerous applications.

• ConoCrete Series—Epoxy flooring available in threeincreasing grades of chemicalresistance

• Arctikure—Epoxy flooring for cold curing environments

• ConoSpread—A flowableepoxy “slurry coat” that maybe customized by broadcast preferences

• Self-Leveling Epoxy—Low viscosity floor coatings thatcombine chemical resistancewith expedient applicationmethods

POLYMER CONCRETESSauereisen’s polymer concretesare heavy-duty castables with achemical-resistant matrix. Thismakes them the perfect solutionfor areas where more than a surface overlay is required.Application and reinforcementtechniques are similar to workingwith Portland concrete. Themajor advantage is an extremelychemically-resistant infrastructurecompleted in a fraction of thetime.

Sauereisen offers several organicpolymer concretes. As a group,they offer impressive physicalstrength and very low permeabil-ity. For applications subject tothe highest concentrations ofacids, a silicate-based material isavailable. Polymer concretes pro-vide chemical resistance to thecore.

Available formulations includeepoxies, novolak epoxies, vinylesters, novolak vinyl esters, andpotassium silicates.

Polymer concrete is easy to install and negates the vulnerability of surface defects.

Continuous mixing equipment accelerates production rates to limit downtime.

Gunited refractories are a solution where aggressive acids are combined with high temperatures.

Chemical-resistant refractoriesapplied by gunite are wellknown for their thermal insulating characteristics andspeed of application. Resistanceto high acid concentrations andtemperatures to 2100ºF are yetanother excellent benefit.

Using anchors as reinforcement,Sauereisen refractories areapplied at a minimum 2-inchthickness for such typical applications as stack linings,wastewater infrastructures and sulfur pits. Binder systems include potassium silicates andcalcium aluminates.

• Chemical-Resistant Castable—Hydraulically-setting calciumaluminate for dry gas environments

• Acidproof Concretes—Potassium silicate resistant to full concentrations of most acids

Sauereisen’s extensive selectionof mortars range from silicatemortars for high acid/high temperature environments toorganic mortars for broad chemical resistance. Available systems include furans, epoxies,vinyl esters, sulfurs and silicates.

Typical installations are completed by either the bricklayer’s or tile setter’s method of application. These same mortarsare used for specialized tank construction.
