WE AS A COMMUNITY:

Welcome into the Body of Christ: Jack David Dornbusch, son of Cacey Dornbusch, who was initiated into the Christian Mystery through Baptism on May 26, 2018.

Welcome! This weekend I will be in Omaha, Nebraska at the University of Creighton helping with a seminarian retreat. I am privileged to be a spiritual director for four of the young men on retreat who are considering the priesthood. This is an eight day silent retreat and is a great help for these young men in discern-ing their call to the priesthood. There will be 177 seminarians from all parts of the United States. I will join 57 other priests who will be helping with spiritual direction and seminarian for-mation. I have been doing this for close to ten years now and it is always very uplifting to work with these young men. I ask you to pray for all of us as we gather in Omaha and ask God to bless us with many more vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Incidentally, Zach Schaefbauer, who is in the seminary and son of BJ and Brandei Schaefbauer from our parish is participating in the retreat. Zach will be going into major seminary at the North American College in Rome, Italy beginning this fall. Nate Allen, son of Chris and Elissa Allen of our parish will be going into his senior year at St. John Vianney Seminary in Saint Paul, Minne-sota. Please keep these two young men in your prayers also.

We have moved from the Easter Season with the grand finale of Pentecost to the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity last week to the present celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ this weekend. This reminds us of who we are and what shapes us as Catholics. We are first of all a Resurrection people filled with the Holy Spirit and baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Having said this we are nourished for the journey of life by the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ which we re-ceive each weekend at Mass.

We cannot survive without this medicine from heaven. It is the source and summit of our Christian lives. In the Gospel of John, chapter 6, we read; “Unless you eat my body and drink my blood you have no life in you.” These serious words of Jesus have to be lived out each week. If we are absent from the congregation or if we fail to eat the body and blood of our Lord, we get fa-tigued and trip up in our journey of life. It’s like not eating the right foods or failing to take care of our physical bodies, we can eventually break down. The same is true spiritually if we fail to receive worthily, the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus.

To show our love and reverence for the Eucharist, there will be a Corpus Christi (Body and Blood) Procession beginning at Saint Mary’s Parish at 1:00pm and proceeding to Sacred Heart Parish and then to Avera St. Luke’s Chapel with a closing Benediction. All are invited back to Sacred Heart for refreshments after the closing.

Have a graced filled week and pray for one another! Fr. Mark
