Pope Paul VI, Evangelization in the Modern World

SHARE THE HARVEST!

Our parish will be helping to feed the less fortunate in Philadelphia again this summer by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to the food pantry at our sister

parish. Whether you have a large garden, or just a sunny spot in your yard, consider adding a few bean, pepper or tomato plants, etc. to contribute to this worthy cause. What better way to set a Christian example for your children or grandchildren than to grow and share the food with those who are needy! ANNUAL BREAD FOR THE WORLD CAMPAIGN 2013

SPONSORED BY THE PEACE AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE A Place at the Table: Bread for the World’s 2013 Offering of Letters Campaign

The Bible is filled with stories of God’s abundance and provision. As Isaiah tells us, all people have a place at God’s table. In his final hours, while eating a meal with his disciples, Jesus asked to be remembered following his death. After his resurrection, Jesus was “known to them in the breaking of the bread.” (Luke 24:35) Today, God calls us to do his work by setting a table for our brothers and sisters who hunger and thirst. And we have made progress in ending hunger. Now, in 2013 Bread for the World (www.bread.org) is leading an effort to urge President Obama and Congress to exercise greater leadership in ensuring that all people have enough to eat. Peace and Justice will be hosting tables at the back of all Liturgies next weekend to provide pre-printed letters for you to sign to Senator Toomey and Senator Casey. The letter will urge the Senators to continue investing in nutrition and development programs – to set a goal to end hunger at home and abroad. If you are not going to be worshiping at St. Thomas of Villanova next weekend would you consider writing a letter to Senator Toomey and Casey at the US Senate Washington, DC 20510? Please use your own words or use some of this sample: Dear Senator, I urge you to ensure a place at the table for all people by providing adequate funding for programs that address hunger and help lift people out of poverty. I also ask you to work with your colleagues and the president to set a goal and establish a plan to end hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. A world without hunger is possible, but first our nation must make it a priority. Congress needs to take a balanced approach to reducing deficits while funding programs that effectively reduce hunger and poverty. Thank you for acting on this request - so that we may see the day when no child goes hungry. Sincerely, Your name Your address Also, please sign the petition to President Obama urging him to make a goal and work with Congress on a plan to

end hunger in the US and abroad. You can find the petition at www.bread.org/go/OL
