From The Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners, Last weekend we heard Jesus call Himself the Good Shepherd. This weekend He says that He is the Vine and we are the Branches. No one can truly live unless he or she remain fixed to the Vine. Christians, by their baptism, are incorporated into Christ Jesus, the Vine. The life of grace comes from the Vine. If a branch is severed from the main vine, it will wither and die. In the same can be said of a baptized Christian. If we intentionally remove ourselves from Christ and the Church, which includes the sacramental life of the Church, we will spiritually die. For a baptized Catholic to argue that he or she does not need to attend mass or frequent the sacraments like confession and eucharist is like a branch that severs itself from a grape vine. The branch will surely die. It is a sad state of affairs when Catholics convince themselves or others con-vince them that they are wasting their time at church. There exists a great chasm of belief between practicing Catholics and non-practicing Catholics. We will soon launch our Eucharistic Adoration program here at Corpus Christi. Eucharistic Adoration is an exten-sion of Mass. It is an opportunity for us to reflect more deeply the mystery you and I receive at each Mass. Sadly, many Catholics, while attending Mass, rush home and back to their busy lives, perhaps not fully reflecting on the mystery they have received into their bodies and souls. The Eucharist is the preeminent life of God, a sharing in the Vine – Jesus Our Savior. Why would anyone want to deprive himself or herself of this wonderful, precious food and drink from Heaven? Eucharistic Adoration helps us to more deeply contemplate Our Crucified and Risen Lord under the form of a sacrament, truly present in the mon-strance. When we visit the Lord at adoration, we encoun-ter the loving and merciful Jesus. He beckons to be our friend. He asks us to stay awhile and listen to the beating of His Sacred Heart. He encourages us to grow in charity and love. And He helps us when we feel lost or broken or in doubt. St. Teresa of Calcutta said the following: The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in heaven, and will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth." SAVE THE DATE: Fr. Mooney’s 50th Priestly Anniversary Celebration. Saturday, June 9th @ Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mass at 4 p.m. Vigil followed by Dinner Recep-tion in Marian Hall.

And now some funnies:

#1 - At Sunday School they were teaching how God creat-ed everything, including human beings. Little Johnny, a child in the kindergarten class, seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying as though he were ill, and said. "Johnny what is the matter?" Little Johnny responded, "I have a pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

#2 - Sunday School helper was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children began discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one young-ster. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck." A third child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant." #3 - There was this man that had a dog. He came home one day, and his dog was belly up with its legs sticking in the air. He wasn't sure if it was dead or not, so he took it to the vet. He told the vet of his problem, and the vet said that there was a sure-fire way to see if the dog is indeed dead. He left the room and returned with a cat. He rubbed the cat in the dogs face, and after a while came to the conclusion that the dog was indeed dead. The man was upset and asked the doctor how much he owed him. The doctor said, "$550" The man was stunned. He asked the doctor to explain and the doctor said, "Fifty for the visit, and 500 for the cat-scan..

#4 – A famous art collector is walking through the city when he notices a mangy cat lapping milk from a saucer in the doorway of a store and he does a double take. He knows that the saucer is extremely old and very valuable, so he walks casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars. The storeowner replies, "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale. The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you twenty dollars for that cat." And the owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat. The collector continues, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish." To which the owner says, "Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold sixty-eight cats." Fr. Murphy

DIVINE MERCY CORNER

April 29: My child, make the resolution to never rely on people. Entrust yourself completely to My will saying, ”Not as I want, but according to Your will, O God, let it be done unto me.” These words, spoken form the depths of one’s heart, can raise a soul to the summit of sanctity in a short time. In such a soul I delight. Such a soul gives Me glory. Such a soul fills heaven with the fragrance of her virtue. But the strength by which you bear sufferings comes from frequent communions. So approach this fountain of mercy often, to draw with the vessel of trust whatever you need (1487)
