This program, commencing imme- diately and extending through June 30. 1950. is open to men be- tween the ages of 18 and 27 who meet educational and physical re- quirements and are considered to possess desirable officer qualifica- tions. Is addition to civilian applicants, pedsonne) on active duty in the Navy, the Marine Corps and their Reserve components are also eli- gible Applicants, however, must agree to serve on active duty for .'oar years unless sooner released. The only one of its type iu the Navy.-the new "Operational Trainer," as it is called, cost 5u0,000 iollars. It is undergoing Its final prep under the experienced eyes of Mr. O. M Green, Field Engineer, of the Western Electric Co., and Mr. G. L. Wickiand, Technician, of Stavid Engineering Corp., both represen- tatives of the Office of Naval Re- -earch. Special Devices Center. The cockpit of the trainer is an exact duplicate of the F6F "Hell- '•-at." Congressmen have expluined that there ha? been no general pay raise, iu the top ranks l o r 4U years while enlisted men have had increases. MAG-11 Reports Stormy Crossing The pilots aboard the li. S. S. Leyte reported a stormy crossing after the first day out. The first day however saw all planes of MAG-11 take to the air lor u group tactics hop. They were given a super send- off by a band in a small boat that pulled along side playing "Auld- Lang-Syne" as the ship left the harbor. Arriving at Gibraltaf on Septem- ber 16, they joined die Sixth Task Fleet under Vice Admiral Forrest P. Sherman. On the 22nd the Sixth Task .Fleet sailed for eight days of tactical exercises in Medi- terranean waters. During the crossing when rough weather prevented flight opera- tions the Squadrons conducted ground school. Several of the pilotB attended "Small Boat Officers" school given by the ship's company. The favorite passtime of the men, which is about the only way to get exercise, is "tag football" played on the flight deck. More news about MAG-11 aboard the "Leyte" next week. Lt Pryor Dunked In Freak Accident Lt. B. H. Pryor escaped serious injuries when the Corsair fighter he was flying crashed into the sea early yesterday morning. Flying trom the carrier deck of the CSS Palau with VMF-212 some- where in the Atlantic, Pryor s brakes locked on take-off causing his plane to swerve over the port side and crash into the sea. The right wing was' damaged when the plane struck a radio antenna, and Pryor went in with full power striking the water with terrific impact. Lt. Pryor was picked up by Lt. W C. Dixon L'SN pilot of the guard helicopter and was back aboard ship in leas than three mi- nutes after the attempted take- off. Although the plane was a com- plete loss, Lt. Pryor received only leg lacerations. Qualifying Dates For Golf Matches Qualification rounds for the ini- tial Cherry Point golf champion- ship will commence on October 1. and will be completed by October 1G. Qualifiers will be placed in flights according to quilifying scores. The winner of e a c h flight will be determined by match play. Anyone completing the 36-hole medal play will qualify. And handi- caps are being established. In order to establish your handicap you must turn in five cards of 18-holes each to the pro shop. If you do not have a handicap card leave your name with the golf Bhack atten- dent. All persons attached to Cherry Point are eligible to compete, and every golfer is encouraged to enter and qualify, as "prixes will be a- warded to the winner of each flight." MACG-1 SCOOPING THE GROUP

MACG-1 was insi»ecte<l by Major Genera l L. E. Woods last Fr iday morning. The t roops fell out br ight and early, eager to put over a good inspection.

It was expected that the inspec-tion would take pret ty nea r all day, but it flew right th rough the morning and ended a round noon. General Woods inspected the b a r -"racks. grounds , and officers of Mar-TACon-1. MGCIS-5 and 6. and f rom unseen sources I ga thered tha t we can be proud of the hard work we did before hand, and t h a t we did put over an excellent inspect ion in every way.
