The Corporate ResidencyYour career begins just six months into the program. By the time you enter your Corporate Residency, you will have been coached and rigorously prepared for this deep immersion into the business world. Over eight months you will accomplish and learn more than is possible in any traditional four-month co-op because a Dalhousie Corporate Residency isn’t just another summer job, it’s a glimpse into your career. As one employer aptly said, “In four months you are considered a co-op student. In eight months we treat you like an employee with all the responsibility that goes with it.” You will be paid a salary that helps offset tuition fees. You’ll come back to the classroom for your second year with solid business experience, ready to leverage what you’ve learned during your residency.

Return on InvestmentBusiness leaders are always asking about return on investment. Are you going to get back more than you put in? The average starting salary of graduates is at least double their previous earnings and the average Corporate Residency income is $29,000.

An eight-month placement gives you time to make a lasting impression. Many of our students are offered full-time positions by their Corporate Residency employers. Typically over 90% are employed within six months of graduation, with an average starting salary of over $60,000.

"It’s been everything I could have hoped for, easily the best decision of my life. The Corporate Residency MBA really spring-boarded me into a very exclusive role."James McGuigan, MBA 2011, Associate Director Equity Derivatives, Scotiabank

More options than you thinkAt the Rowe School of Business, “all degrees are welcome” is a statement that we hold dear. We are looking for “high potential career launchers” from every discipline. Along with academic success in their undergraduate degree, Corporate Residency MBA students share a sense of how to transfer skills and experience acquired in Arts, Science, Engineering, Health and other degrees into a managerial context, along with a willingness to take on a steep learning curve and strive to be the best they can be.

In many cases the diversity in our classes comes from students “pivoting” out of different career paths. You may have been considering a career in medicine, law, dentistry, pharmacy or engineering, then realized you don’t quite fit or that there might be something else out there. Are you curious about the unlimited opportunities and earning potential that are on offer for Dalhousie Corporate Residency MBA graduates?

Other students that come to the Corporate Residency MBA program are “blenders”. Do you have a passion for what you studied in your undergraduate program and want to build on the strength of that degree? The Corporate Residency MBA can help you leverage the skills you already have and provide you with a new set of business and leadership skills to launch your career in your chosen field. For those with an interest in law, we offer the option of a joint JD/MBA program, which can be completed in four years.

We believe that “careers start here” and within months of starting the Corporate Residency MBA you can be in a well-paying job that offers myriad challenges and opportunities. Our Employer Partners across the country can’t wait to work with our leaders of the future.

Community Engaged Learning

MANAGEMENT WITHOUT BORDERS (MWB)This course is characterized by a strong emphasis on teamwork and effective problem solving in inter-professional environments. Community engaged learning is at the core of MWB. Together with graduate students from the Faculty of Management’s MPA, MLIS, MREM and MES programs, our MBA students will spend the Fall semester of second year working on large projects hosted by organizations from across Nova Scotia. The MWB group project is a significant undertaking – one that is intended to address a real challenge facing our partner organizations. This exercise in cross-boundary collaboration provides students with an opportunity to build and hone professional and academic skills that can be transferred to future workplaces.

ROWE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS CONNECT (RSBConnect)In the Fall semester of the second year, teams of MBA students are matched with businesses having high growth potential to work on eight-month projects. The RSBConnect teams scan the business environment, formulate a strategy and develop an implementation plan. The organizations gain a fresh perspective on important issues while students gain hands-on experience in applying their knowledge and skills as well as broadening their network.

CBS is located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The annual MWB conference brings students, community partners and faculty together to share insights from MWB group projects.
