Set in the beautiful grounds of Southsea Castle overlooking The Solent, The Courtyard restaurant is the perfect venue for corporate meetings, parties and events. No matter what the occasion, we are confident that you will find the right package to impress your clients, staff and colleagues.

With nearly 500 years of turbulent and fascinating British history, you won’t find anywhere else in Portsmouth quite like it. If you are looking for a venue with something a bit special, then you’ve found it. A cosy and warm restaurant for small events and meetings, a large marquee with built-in bar for larger events, and if you really want to impress, the whole castle complete with cannons and Tudor paraphernalia. There’s a wide variety of spaces and options to play with, allowing us to create an event which is perfect for you.

Our menus are designed to reflect gorgeous food using locally sourced fresh and seasonal ingredients. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by exceptional local and artisan suppliers who deliver Portsmouth’s best quality produce, allowing us to pair a natural approach with contemporary British cuisine and skilful presentation.

Head Chef Chris Leaf has a varied and impressive background having worked under the tutelage of Gordon Ramsey and cooked for a list of stars including Victoria and David Beckham, Heston Blumenthal, James Martin and Keith Floyd. Having formerly worked in many of Hampshire’s best restaurants, you can have full confidence in his ability to provide wonderful, tailored menus for your event.

We provide the projector and screen for your presentations, notepad and pens for up to 20 people, plus tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going. For larger events, our marquee can fit 120 seated or 200 standing and has a built-in bar. If you really want to push the boat out then you can exclusively hire the entire castle. This gives you access to the restaurant, the marquee, the historical keep and the ramparts, where you can enjoy a glass of champagne as you watch the sun set over The solent.

Christmas at The Courtyard is always a festive affair and made extra special by the magical atmosphere when the castle is lit up and twinkling with Christmas sparkle! Large companies can book the whole castle, The Courtyard restaurant or the marquee for a wonderfully decadent winter celebration.

Now, for the first time, we will be hosting a number of mulit-business Christmas parties. Ticket prices will include an arrival drink, three course Christmas dinner, large glass of wine and live entertainment. There is something magical about walking in the footprints of Henry VIIIIt’s a fascinating part of our history and walking around the castle you really get a feel of the place through the centuries.Built in 1544, the Castle was part of a series of fortifications constructed by Henry VIII around England’s coasts to protect the country from invaders. Barely was the work completed when Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose, tragically sank in front of the Castle. During the English Civil War, nearly a century later, the Castle was captured for the only time in its history, by Parliamentarian forces.Over the centuries, Southsea Castle’s defences were strengthened so that it could continue to protect Portsmouth. In the 19th Century a tunnel was built to defend the Castle moat. Visitors can still enter the tunnel and see how the castle would have been defended against invaders.The Castle has had many other uses besides defence. For a while it was a military prison. A lighthouse was built in the 1820s, and is still in use by shipping today. In 1960 the Castle left military service. It was acquired by Ports-mouth City Council, which restored the Castle to its 19th Century appearance.
