About CompNow
It’s hard to believe we already well and truly into 2017. The holiday period was unusually busy for us in the Corporate and Government space, with many businesses using the downtime to undergo major refreshes and infrastructure upgrades. This period also saw our Hospitality and Digital Signage business grow as we did more retail fitouts, while also preparing an iBeacon proof of concept in conjunction with our Dev Team.
Our app portfolio has continued to grow as has our Dev Team. Building on our more traditional B2B apps and integration, we have released the consumer focused Sally Fitzgibbons app, “All Australian Beach Body”. This high profile app for one of Australia’s best known female surfers is a considerable landmark for our Dev Team.
I’m also excited to have Brendan Redpath joining our executive team to head up our Services offerings. Brendan’s extensive experience in managed services and running teams of engineers is a huge win for both CompNow and our customers alike. Case Study : St Joseph’s College
CompNow integrated high impact displays at St Joseph’s College, New South Wales.Since 1881 St Joseph’s College has provided excellence in boys’ education. Today, its reputation is underpinned by a strategic plan for innovation and integrated technologies that are improving all facets of College life.
Beyond catering for the College’s 1,100 students, Joeys has 600 boarders, 120 teachers and 200 support staff across eight major complexes on a large campus in Hunters Hill, Sydney.
Joey’s ageing fleet of 13 digital signage panels in the day school had numerous end of life, WindowsXP licensing issues. Managing it was a laborious process. In many cases panels were stuck on inactive blue screens or content updated by staff taking a USB stick to each panel. And the boarding complex had a separate register of TVs where students could access only two Foxtel channels and had to ask house coordinators to change between them.
After evaluating and trialling a range of options, the college decided to go with the CompNow / Tripleplay solution of keeping the screens and replacing the players that were causing the issues. This overcame technical problems and allowed Joey’s to reinvigorate their investment.
CompNow re-purposed most of the existing fleet by adding set top box (STB) interfaces between the older panels and TVs, and a TriplePlay server. The unified platform – with 35 panels across Joeys’ extensive campus of teaching blocks, staff areas, reception and boarding areas - is now centrally managed.
St Joseph’s Innovation and Technology Director, Graeme Kachel said of the solution: “With the server built and the boxes connected back to it, the system just worked. The one week installation went very smoothly and professionally. And getting to know how to operate it was easy. From the start, all staff could use it to really good effect.”
Staff and students are kept up to date as timetable changes, special meetings and reminders are shown where and when they are needed - all display panels and TVs have the capacity to display content such as emergency notifications.
“The solution’s expandable, flexible digital signage with integrated IPTV platform future proofs our investment,” Kachel said.

Introducing : Brendan Redpath National Services ManagerCompNow is pleased to welcome Brendan Redpath to the business as our National Services Manager, with the Engineering and Service Centre teams under his direction. Brendan joins us with many years of experience in the IT industry.
Brendan started his journey back in the mid 90’s in telecommunications with Optus, where he was responsible for managing major accounts like Ford Motor Group. Brendan saw the rapid changes happening in the IT industry and moved into consultancy where he was able to utilise his real world knowledge. Initially focusing on Education before expanding into Corporate and Not For Profit organisations. Most recently in 2010 Brendan started his own IT services company which provided an excellent stepping stone to joining CompNow and assuming responsibility for a national footprint.
Brendan has vast experience with clients rolling out large and complex projects such as a 3,000 end point IPTel solution for a 45 site Health group, to assisting a Not For Profit with a multi-national IT security project that literally saved lives. With experience spread across many solutions and verticals, Brendan brings a wealth of knowledge to our already strong teams across the country, and can assist any client with moving from conceptual projects or services ideas to stainable cost effective outcomes.
In 2017, Brendan is working on exciting developments in the Services part of the business that will add a number of new solutions to the CompNow portfolio. The All Australian Beach Body App
Fitzgibbons International is a small team of 6 based in Manly on Sydney’s northern beaches. We’re the health, fitness and lifestyle brainchild of professional surfer Sally Fitzgibbons and we’re incredibly passionate about the work that we do. Our doors opened less than 18 months ago, and writing this marks almost exactly 1 year since Adobe first introduced us to Scott Fraser to chat about the concept for our app, The All Australian Beach Body.
Several marathon conference calls with Scott and his team picked up an exciting momentum, a uniquely
accurate understanding of what we were trying to achieve, and some brilliant additions to the technical aspects of the project.
At this point, Scott handed us over to the dev team headed up by Steve Whatman, and starring Steve Nocker, Daniel Zelenko, Gauri Joshi, and Anthony Carnell. Each owned and delivered an element of our ecosystem which meant we could see multiple aspects of the project coming to life simultaneously.
Finding a development partner as passionate about what they do as we are took the project to new heights. And several months of intensive development (and sleepless nights) later, we’re about to launch the AABB app and programs to market. We couldn’t be prouder of the app and the collaboration with CompNow to bring it to life.
