An Invitation to Join The Cornerstone Society of The Foundation of

San Marino Community Church

When an opportunity to join the Cornerstone Society was presented to us, we were honored to do so. Our family has benefitted so much from being a part of SMCC. And, while we look forward to many more years as active members of the church, the day will come when we can no longer be an active part of its ministry. At that time, it is our hope that an estate gift, joined with those of many others, will allow SMCC to continue its ministry for many years to come.

The Cornerstone Society of the Foundation of San Marino Community Church (SMCC) was established in 2007 in order to recognize individuals who have made a commitment to SMCC in their estate plan or who are committed to making a commitment at some point in the future. The Cornerstone Society provides individuals with an opportunity to acknowledge the value of SMCC in their lives, while helping to ensure it continues to serve others for years to come.

Estate gifts of all sizes are gratefully accepted at the Foundation of SMCC. Membership in the Cornerstone Society not only blesses SMCC and the donor, but also provides an opportunity for fellowship. Each year Cornerstone Society members are invited to a reception, in addition to seminars and special events.

Becoming a memberTo become a member of the Cornerstone Society, simply notify us that you have or plan to include the Foundation of San Marino Community Church in your will or estate plan. You are welcome to do this by completing the form attached to this brochure and returning it to The Foundation of SMCC via the church office.

It was an easy decision to include SMCC in our will — we have been members for many years, our children were raised and married here, and we have built many close relationships with other members. The Church has been an important part of our life and the work it does is significant. Our hope is that our current and Cornerstone legacy gifts will support the future of this vibrant congregation that is growing here in our community under excellent leadership.

Planned Giving Opportunities:There are a variety of ways you can include The Foundation of San Marino Community Church in your will or estate plan. The Foundation can work with you to customize your gift to meet your needs. Alternatively, you may wish to consider one of the following:

A Bequest in a Will: Make a provision in your will, designating a specific gift or a percentage of your estate. The most common gifts are cash, securities or real property.

Life Income Gifts: A charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder trust, or a pooled income fund, all provide income to you or your beneficiary during your life. These types of gifts usually reduce or eliminate certain types of taxes and provide a guaranteed income during your life. Following your passing, the church receives the gift.

Life Insurance or Retirement Plan: The church can be made the beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement benefits/IRA.

A Life Estate: With this gift, you deed your property to the Foundation of SMCC, but continue to live in the property for the remainder of your life. A life estate may provide an income tax deduction and may reduce capital gains and estate taxes.

Designating your Gift:You may designate your estate gift to benefit any of the pooled endowment funds at the Foundation of San Marino Community Church. You can create a named endowment fund with a minimum estate gift of $25,000. For a list of current funds, please contact the Foundation.

If you would like more information about the Cornerstone Society, or would like to speak with someone confidentially about planned giving opportunities, please contact Shannon Boalt, Director of Development, The Foundation of SMCC at [email protected] or (626) 282-4181.

Optional: Below, please check off any information you are comfortable sharing with the Foundation regarding your estate intentions.

We are grateful for the growth in our congregation; worship services to meet individual choice in time and style; spiritual education for children and youth that benefit an individual’s lifetime and as a citizen of our society; and social experiences that are just plain fun at The San Marino Community Church. It is a joy to return home from Church and say, “I had such a good time!” To keep our leadership strong, we are making a gift to establish an endowment for Clergy Salaries.
