Genre codesThe Genre Codes & Conventions in which pop

culture typically uses consists of various things. For example, the inclusion of brightly coloured modern-to-the-time stylish clothes is of norm in pop videos.

Frequently used close-up camera shots are implemented to illustrate and emphasize the happiness exemplified by the artist. The close-ups give a sense of content within the character and it shows they’re happy with their life. The artist has chosen to include such positivity because he wants to connote happiness and make the viewer feel cheerful.

References Asha represented the feeling of Indians coming from

their home country in hope to live a better life in England. The use of colour within Brimful of Asha represents the Indian culture through clothing. Another video to support this theory is Dis Ka Aalam – Kumar Sanu. The costume seen here, which is worn by a young pretty Indian girl, is an electric yellow with crystallised looking beads. Both costumes suggest that colourful clothing is a genre convention that must be included in Indian music videos. The reason why I think this is done is because it is done to brand their culture as being peaceful, joyful and loving.

LyricsThe lyrics are about a tribute to

Asha Bhosle, one of the most famous pop singers/film-score vocalists of India. The lyrics also supposedly symbolise hope for Indian people to immigrate into England.

Illuminate the main streets and the cinema aisles. We don't care about no government warning

The movies and songs are an escape; they are what allow people to forget important concerns, at least for a while.
