DOING AWAY WITH DINING ROOMS - Formal dining rooms are no longer as coveted as theyonce were. Family dinners, if they manage to be at home, are now just as likely to be served in thekitchen or in another space, such as on the patio or in the living room while watching television, asthey are in formal dining rooms. Trendy homeowners have begun to ditch dining rooms in favor ofusing the space for other purposes. Homeowners with a passion for literature can outfit the roomwith floor-to-ceiling bookcases to turn one-time dining rooms into the ultimate library. Those whoneed a bit more family space can use a dining room as a family room, outfitting the room with allstorage nooks, a flat screen TV and a comfortable couch to make it more inviting. Because diningrooms are often located next to the kitchen, the removal of walls can make expanding the kitcheneven easier. If their kitchens are cramped, homeowners can look into ways to spread out into thespace allotted for the dining area. There are many ways to repurpose dining rooms so they arefunctional to homeownersʼ specific needs, especially if those needs do not include formal diningareas.

HOW TO INSULATE YOUR HOME AGAINST A DEADLY FIRE (MS) — As fire prevention aware-ness efforts gear up across North America, the National Fire Protection Association and insulationcompany, Roxul Inc., are spreading the word to Americans from coast to coast about the importanceof fire preparedness.Through the “Hear the BEEP where you SLEEP” campaign and Roxulʼs “When Seconds Count”

initiative, Americans are reminded that simple steps can cut their chances of dying in a fire in half. Here are some measures you can take to dramatically reduce your risk:• Be sure to have a smoke alarm on every story of your home and outside sleeping areas.• Develop a fire escape plan and practice it.• Use non-combustible materials when renovating. The choice of insulation can make a big differ-ence. Opt for a product with the highest fire resistance possible, like Roxul mineral wool insulation, which, in the event of a fire, will not produce harmful gases, toxic smoke or promote the spread offlames.• Purchase a multi-use fire ladder for each bedroom in your home and practise using it.• Place fire extinguishers within reach throughout your home.• In the event of a fire, leave through the closest exit. Do not stop to collect belongings and neverreenter a home once safely outside.Additional fire safety tips are available at nfpa.org. You can also improve your fire safety knowledge, with a contest incentive, by visiting roxul.com.

Unusual rattles, clanks orvibrations may mean itʼs time for a

repair. When a replacement is needed, seek out a quieter machine. Newtechnologies have allowed manufacturers to lower the sound output ofmany models. 2. Seal sound leaks. Holes and cracks around windows and doors let out-side noise into the home. Weather-stripping and/or caulking can help toeliminate the intrusion of exterior noise. Adhesive soundproofing tape canalso help seal any problem areas.3. Anticipate centers of noise when renovating. When designing a newroom or renovating an existing one, consider its intended use and potentialfor generating noise. Playrooms, music studios or home theaters, for ex-ample, can be quieted with insulation. Look for a product such as RoxulSafeʼnʼSound that is specifically designed to provide superior sound ab-sorption and can be applied to the interior walls of a noisy room to effec-tively reduce disruptive sounds.4. Use sound-absorbent materials. Carpets and window drapes preventsound from echoing around a room. If your home has hardwood, laminateflooring or tile, consider investing in a throw rug to reduce ambient noiseand add some character to your space.Taking simple steps to create a more peaceful space will maximize the en-joyment of your home. It can also have the added benefit of helping to keepthe peace among spouses, parents and siblings alike.

APPLY ONLINEHome Equity Line of Credit, no closing costs, provided a minimum advance of $10,000 is taken at closing. Advances may be taken either by using standard Home Equity Line checks provided by the Bank or by signing a separate Installment Loan Agreement(s) with its own home equity loan rate(s) and term(s). Minimum advance by the installment loan method is $5,000 with a maximum of four outstanding loans at any time. As principal is repaid on the installment loan(s) advance(s), the available credit on the line increases by an equal amount. 2.99% APR for the first 3 years of the home equity agreement will be charged on new lines with advance(s) taken by writing a Home Equity Line check. This 2.99% interest offer does not apply if the loan purpose is to refi-nance an existing Saratoga National mortgage or home equity balance. At conclusion of the 3 year introductory fixed rate period, APR will be calculated based on the highest Prime Rate published in the Wall Street Journal. WSJ Prime Rate is presently 3.25% as of 12/16/08. For combo lines of $25,000 or more the annual percentage for advances taken by check will be prime +.25%, for lines less than $25,000, the annual percentage rate is prime +.75%. Rates on check advances are subject to quarterly adjustment throughout the term of loan and will not exceed a maximum of 14.95% APR. There is no minimum rate. This offer applies to consumer lines of $250,000 or less. Minimum payment of $100 on check advances may apply. Payments may be made through a Saratoga National checking or savings account. For a typical installment loan advance of $25,000 over 10 years, your monthly payment would be approximately $253.12, assuming an automatic payment from a Saratoga National checking or savings account and an APR of 4.00%. If the home equity agreement is cancelled for any reason within 2 years from closing date, the amount of closing costs and mortgage tax the Bank pays at closing (approximately $705 for a typical $25,000 line), will be added to payoff amount owed. Maximum approved line is 80% of appraised value of house minus existing first mortgage balance, if any. If the Bank determines Title Insurance is necessary, cost will be borne by customer. Customer required to maintain property insurance. All or part of Home Equity Interest may be tax deductible. Please consult with your tax advisor concerning your personal tax situation. All Annual Percentage Rates shown are accurate as of 6/30/14 and are subject to change anytime at Bank’s discretion. Subject to credit qualified. Equal Housing Lender/Member FDIC 9/15 Penny Saver

TRULIA SURVEY FINDS WHATʼS IN AMERICAʼS DREAM HOME

(NAPSI)—For 71 percent of Americans, homeownership is part of their personal AmericanDream. So what does this dream home look like? Where is it located and what amenities dopeople dream of most? A recent survey conducted by real estate website Trulia made someintriguing discoveries.

First Comes Marriage, Then Comes Baby and House

The vast majority of millennial renters, aged 18 to 34, plan to buy a home one day—morethan any other generation. Most, however, are not ready to buy a house. This generation offirst-timers was hit hard during the recession and their ability to find jobs, move out of theirparentsʼ homes and eventually become homeowners is a key part of a healthy housing mar-ket. Only 36 percent are currently saving up to buy a home in the next five years. Most havetheir eyes on a new car. Nevertheless, 87 percent believe theyʼll be able to buy their dreamhome one day.

Americans Arenʼt Dreaming of McMansions or Tiny Homes

So what does the American dream home look like? Well, it really depends on how old youare.

In general, Americans arenʼt big fans of McMansions or tiny homes. In fact, 44 percent wanta home between 1,401 and 2,600 square feet. However, as people get older, their dreamhome gets smaller.

Millennials and Gen Xers gravitate toward modern houses, which often have newer amenitiesand technologies. Baby boomers, on the other hand, want single-story ranch homes that aremore accessible.

Only 6 percent of millennials would prefer a high-rise penthouse and only 4 percent dream ofconverted lofts.

Americans Dream of Suburbs

Most Americans—especially boomers and Gen Xers—wanted to live in the countryside andsuburbs rather than a major city. For millennials, a short commute to work and a great schooldistrict were far more important than the actual location.

Dream Home Amenities

Americans love to entertain and eat. The top dream home features a backyard deck, openfloor plan or balcony with a view. Food-related amenities such as a gourmet kitchen or veg-etable garden were also popular.

Millennials, compared to any other generation, want it all. Given the option, 18- to 34-year-olds, would like all the latest and greatest amenities in their dream home—especially a bal-cony with a view.

However, Generation X, 35-54-year-olds, wanted a backyard deck most and would prefer aswimming pool over a vegetable garden.

Baby boomers want a backyard deck, open floor plan, gourmet kitchen and vegetable gar-den.

EVENT LENDS SUPPORT, CREATES AWARENESSSARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Angel Names Association (ANA), an area nonprofit that helps

bereaved families across the country, will host its 10th annual Memorial Walk at the SaratogaSpa State Park on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. This free family event, held in observance of National Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Awareness month, aims to in-crease community awareness and provide support to the tens of thousands of families who areaffected by child loss each year.More than 26,000 stillbirths occur in the United States annually. The Centers for Disease Control(CDC) recently reported that, for the first time, the number of stillbirths has surpassed the num-ber of infant deaths in the U.S. The CDC report may have spurred media discussion; articlesabout the emotional impact of stillbirth have been featured in the Huffington Post and the NewYork Times, giving a face to those who have endured the tragedy. “We are finally talking aboutstillbirth and pregnancy loss, and we need to be sure the conversations continue,” said MichelleMosca, ANA Cofounder and President. The Memorial Walk offers an opportunity to acknowledge and remember, alongside others whohave endured similar tragedies, a baby lost too soon. It has evolved into a celebration of lifeand an event that families look forward to every year. “It is a family reunion of sorts,” remarkedBoard member Lisa Hunter. “We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones, andhope that the event provides comfort.”The event includes live music by Tailspin, childrenʼs crafts, refreshments, prizes, and wonderfulopportunities to remember a child whose life touched yours. Additional food items will be pro-vided by The Long Horn Restaurant and Pub, who has generously offered to donate all proceedsto support ANAʼs mission to assist bereaved families in need.Sponsors include 36 Marketing, The Times Union, The Long Horn Restaurant, JCB Specialties,4 Winds of Change, The Adirondack Trust Company, Balet Flowers & Design, National QuarryServices, Tailspin, Michael & Linda Toohey; Big Show Entertainment, Corinth Merchants Asso-ciation, DʼElla Auto Group, Freihoferʼs, Gallery 9 North, LaBrake Memorials, Myrtle Street Ob-stetrics and Gynecology, Stewarts Shops, and W.J. AVOID CAR-SELLING SCAMS(NAPSI)—The Internet makes it easy to shop for the best bar-gain on a used car—just remember, an offer that seems "toogood to be true" probably is.It may come from someone known as a "curbstoner." These areillegal dealers who pose as individual sellers online and mostlydeal with cars that reputable dealers won't touch. You may see cheap prices but the cars generally have majorproblems you're not told about, such as flood damage, bad ac-cidents or odometer problems. Some may even have a differentVehicle Identification Number (VIN), a trick used by thieves tohide the true identity of stolen cars.Look for:1. Strange marks or scratches on the dashboard VIN plate orsticker inside the driver's side door.2. Any car documents where the VIN looks altered.3. Multiple VINs on different pieces of paperwork.4. The seller's name not appearing on car title or registration. What to do: Shop online at a place like carfax.com. Every car

for sale there comes with a free Carfax Vehicle History Report. Also have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle and alwayssee the car in person
