A new year, bright and wonderful, filled with all sorts of plans of what to knit. If you're like me, you'll have written a list of all the things you'd like to make. (And also just tossed out the list from the last year which you got maybe half the projects you'd meant to knit done!) Hopefully, you were more successful than I at getting all your Christmas knitting done. I'm still down a couple of socks, but luckily have forgiving and loving family members who are willing to wait just that little bit longer for their handmade gifts. With luck, you won't find me still knitting socks at our January meeting! She is the dyer and brightly-coloured brain behind coriand3r knits. Chantelle launched her micro indie-dyer business at the 2014 K-W Knitters' Fair, and has been going slow and steady every since, participating in local fairs and festivals, trunk shows, and speaking events. She will discuss how acid dyes work, and the dye techniques, tools and supplies she uses to create yarns. She will also touch on collaboration with designers, sample knitters, and others. Her presentation will include lots of photos for visual learners. Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Guild Newsletter January 2020 Page 1 of 10

President’s Message Welcome to a new year! A new year, bright and wonderful, filled with all sorts of plans of what to knit. If you're like me, you'll have written a list of all the things you'd like to make. (And also just tossed out the list from the last year which you got maybe half the projects you'd meant to knit done!)

Hopefully, you were more successful than I at getting all your Christmas knitting done. I'm still down a couple of socks, but luckily have forgiving and loving family members who are willing to wait just that little bit longer for their handmade gifts.

With luck, you won't find me still knitting socks at our January meeting!

Programme – coriand3r knits – January 14 Programming Team – Our speaker on Tuesday, January 14th is our very own guild member, Chantelle Harpe.

Please bring any questions about the production or business side of dyeing yarn. Chantelle promotes a philosophy of openness and collaboration among fibre artists to build strength in the fibre arts community. She will also touch on information useful to the knitter on how to get the best performance out of your indie-dyed yarn. There will be a selection of her yarn for sale, with cash, debit and credit accepted.

Big V, little v, what begins with v? Volunteering!

Big V Knitters’ Fair Coordinator

Unfortunately our new coordinator needed to step down, so we again need someone to join us for the Knitters’ Fair Coordinator role. Rest assured, we have a good solid process in place, so you won’t have to reinvent the fair. Come on out and help us continue this fabulously popular event! Please consider stepping up for this vital role.

Little v roles!

Are you looking for the ability to volunteer for short-term events outside of the larger roles on the board? You’re in luck!

Adjudicated Show

We need volunteers for the Adjudicated Show committee. We would like 2 or 3 people to help with the planning of the Adjudicated Show starting NOW! If you are interested please contact Chris Klassen or Elizabeth Guthrie at [email protected]

General committee or occasional help

If you would like to join any committee and help out, please contact the committee leaders and join in. If you can think of another way to help out, once in a while, a few minutes once a month, let our Volunteer Coordinator know and she’ll find a place for you/put you to work!
