Overview
• Introduction • CoreProfiler Tool • Building a depth scaled image • Logging core • Taking Measurements from core • Interoperability

Section 1: Introduction
Motivation
Central to all geological characterization are observations made on drill core and chips. The quality and reliability of these observations are impeded by • inconsistencies of visual observations • the ability to efficiently reconcile
against photographic records
CoreProfiler | Dean 5 |
Deliverables
Six month requirements gathering and analysis phase.
A software based toolkit that • Produces depth-calibrated digital images from typical handheld
photographs of drill core • Allows reconciliation of field observations with the depth-
calibrated images • Can use reference image collections to ensure consistency and
accuracy of observations – Image library containing field code metadata

History
• CoreProfiler release 1.0 - ACARP C15037 –in 2007 – Team
– Project management – Renate Silwa – Software development – Peter Dean – Algorithm development– George Poropat
• CoreProfiler release 2.1.1 in 2013 – CoalLog support – Measure structure in oriented core – Stereonet support
• Commercialised in Dec 2015

Section 3: Build Scaled Core Image
Import Core Photographs
• Consumer grade camera • Core Tray or split • Specify tray size • Pick tray corners
CoreProfiler | Dean 9 |
Add Depth Controls
CoreProfiler | Dean 10 |
Imported images
Define intervals • Sample • Core Block • Broken Core
Assign depth controls to core intervals
Use preview image to check and fine-tune depth controls
When you are happy with the image …
Export scaled image Scaled core images are ready to be displayed in
– wireline log interpretation software – mine modelling software

Section 4: Logging
Overview Choose either geological or geotechnical logging sheet • Manually create core units from scaled
core • Automatically import core units from
field logging data Log sheets are customisable (Excel) • Support for CoalLog ‘out the box’

Stereonet • Visualise joint sets • Joint set statistics
Section 6: Interoperability
Interoperability
• Scaled core images are exported in formats ready to be displayed in wireline log interpretation or mine modelling software
• Users define logging sheets and data look-up lists that ensure compatibility with mine site data conventions
• Field logging data can be imported for validation against images
• Users can build mine specific image reference libraries to classify rock types or geotechnical rock classes
