Malatleng currently has an office in Witbank and offers the following services: Site supervision . Ron Saunders our newest member liaises with farmers, land occupiers and lays out all the boreholes with our GPS. He is on site during the week and liaises daily with the drillers, geologists, wire line loggers and clients. Ron ensures that the drillers sites are clean and that they adhere to the Health & Safety requirements. He also ensures that all the logistics associated with placing boreholes, communicating with our core loggers, surveyors, farmers and drillers runs smoothly and efficiently on each site. Ron checks and photographs the site rehabilitation on completion of each borehole. Core logging . Our loggers log core in the field according to the clients’ specifications. Samples are taken according to client standards and delivered to the laboratories. Malatleng currently offers coal logging but can call on various subcontractors for other commodities. A thorough check is kept on sample names, depths and masses as well as core recoveries and the general drilling standards. Data capture . All bore hole data is captured electronically and processed according to client specifications. Examples of Malatleng’s coal logging out-put in PDF or jpeg. format is shown below. All raw data, analytical data and processed data can either be placed on a web folder with a secure password fore the client’s easy access or burnt on to a DVD and delivered. Impact splitting and geotechnical logging for roof support in coal mines Geophysical Logging . We can contract in geophysical logging using Anko Geophysics or Geoline. We are currently investigating the purchase of our own geophysical logging equipment. Geotechnical logging . Malatleng has an arrangement with a private consultat Gerald Letlatsa who has a number of years of geotechnical logging experience.

We are a BEE core logging and data capturing company. Our members are:

Judie van Wyk:

Judie is the administration manager and does the books tax and VAT for Malatleng Mining

CC.

Pieter Hamman: BSc (Hon) Geology

Pieter is an Associate and assists with core logging and fieldwork.

Albert Rikhotso: BSc Geology

Albert is a 26% share holder in the CC and is currently in charge of data capture and the production of graphic logs, impact splitting and core logging.

Dawie van Wyk: BSc Geology

Dawie has been active in the coal geology and mining industry for the last 25 years. He is a 51% shareholder in the CC does the training and mentoring of Malatleng’s members as well as overseeing the data capture and production of graphic logs.

Ron Saunders:

Ron was involved with field exploration and setting up of exploration camps for many years in Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa for US Steel International. Ron is a 23% share holder in the CC and recently decided to return to the geological and field-logistical working environment.

Khutala Petane

Khutala has been working for Mintek and has an Honours degree from Fort Hare. She has already started her training period in coal core logging, sections and data capture.

During permit exploration programmes photographs are taken before drilling commences and after the rehabilitation has been done. Core recoveries are part of the routine logging procedures. Anko Geophysics and Geoline currently do our geophysical logging.
