Please Remember his/her hands fre- quently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds Disinfect frequently- touched surfaces and shared items at least once a day Teach your child not to touch his/her mouth, nose and eyes If your child is sick and has a fever (any tempera- ture over 100 before Ty- lenol or Motrin), keep him/her at home to pre- vent the spread of illness to others. We need chil- dren to be fever free for 24 hours before they re- turn to school to make sure they are no longer contagious. With flu season upon us, it is important that we work together to keep our children healthy. Viruses spread easily among chil- dren in schools, and fami- lies with school-age chil- dren have more infections than others, with an aver- age of one-third of these family members infected each year. By keeping our children flu-free, we ben- efit the community as a whole. You can help pre- vent the spread of flu or help your child get better if he/she does get sick by following a few simple steps: If possible, you and your child should get a flu vaccine Remind your child to cover his/her nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dis- pose of the tissue immediately Have your child wash If your child is going to be absent from school: 1. Please email the school at [email protected] or call the office at 469- 633-3550. 2. Send a handwritten note or a doctors note when your child returns to school. Sick Cowpoke? We would love to find out how many are spoken in our Corbell Family! We will be celebrat- ing Corbells diversity through a Multicultural Minute during some of our assem- blies. This year we will be filming students in a private setting and the video will be shown at the assemblies. Students may dress in their countrys attire (optional) and will say Good morning Corbell, my name is _____” in their native language. These stu- dents will also be featured in Corbells Multicultural Minute bulletin board in the main hallway. We are looking forward to learning about many different cultures and languages! If your child would like to participate in the Multicultural Minute, please fill out the form here and return it to your childs teacher. We will contact you to sched- ule a filming session, which will be on selected Mondays at 3:10 pm in the li- brary. Happy fall, Corbell Fami-

lies!

Although the weather is

not fully cooperating yet,

this is an exciting time of

year. School is in full

swing, and our students

are growing and learning

by leaps and bounds al-

ready. I love being part of

the Corbell family; I think

my favorite parts of each

day are the moments I

spend with students. See-

ing their smiles as I open

their car door in the morn-

ing, getting a high five in

the hallway as we pass

each other, or listening to

them explain new learning

in the classroom all keep

me motivated to be the

students’ and teachers’

greatest supporter each

day.

I’d like to share a little re-

search with you that has

been very eye-opening for

me, both as a parent and

an educator. We have

shared this research with

the Corbell staff and work

to embed the ideals into

our everyday instruction

and interactions with stu-

dents. Stanford University

Psychologist Carol Dweck

found through extensive

research that children (and

adults) who attribute their

success to innate ability

(i.e. believing they are

smart) are much less likely

to try harder and experi-

ence success than stu-

dents who attribute suc-

cess to effort. This has a

great impact on how we

should praise students…

instead of saying, “Wow,

look what you did! You are

so smart!” we should help

students recognize that

their hard work paid off:

“You solved that problem!

You must have worked

really hard. Way to not

give up.” We want to help

our students recognize

that failure is actually an

opportunity to learn and

grow. Take a look at the

following chart that helps

explain this idea of a ‘fixed

mindset’ vs. a ‘growth

mindset’.

What are some ways you

can help foster a growth

mindset in your student

and set them up for suc-

cess, no matter the obsta-

cles they encounter?

Thanks for entrusting us

each day with your pre-

cious children. It is my

continued honor to serve

as your assistant principal.

See you soon!

Here's how to keep your kids safe:

Decorate costumes and bags

with reflective tape or stickers and, if

possible, choose light colors.

Since masks can sometimes

obstruct a child’s vision, try

non-toxic face paint and

makeup whenever possible.

Have kids use glow sticks

or flashlights to help them see and

be seen by drivers.

Cover one side of the street at a

time, no crisscrossing.

Use caution when crossing

the street and driveways.

When selecting a costume make

sure it is the right size to pre-

vent trips and falls.

Calling all Target REDcard users!!! Whether you have the Target

debit card or credit card. If you link your card to Corbell...we will

earn an automatic 1% of your total purchases. It is really, really sim-

ple to add. Have your card handy and go to https://www-

secure.target.com/redcard/tcoe/home. Scroll down until you see on

the right hand side of the screen an area that says "Search for your

school", at the bottom you will see the "Search" button, to the right

side of that it has a link that says "select by Target school ID"...click

on that! Our school ID# is 124077. You will then be directed to a

screen where you can verify our school information. Enter your

name and REDcard# on that screen and click on enroll!!!

Kroger Rewards is a great way to help Corbell raise money. Simply

go to https://www.kroger.com/communityrewards. Register your

card, then click on the "community" link and "community rewards",

enter Corbell Elementary's code 84069 or search for Weldon Corbell

Elementary and link it to your card. That's it!!! We will automatically

start earning a percentage of all the purchases you make with Krog-

er....it's an amazingly easy way for our school to earn money for our

kids. Even if you previously linked your card during other school

years...you have to re-authorize the school each year.

You can also call the Kroger Community Rewards number at 1-800-

576-4377 and they can assist you.

A special thank you to all who played a part in making our Wild Walk event a success! It warms my heart to see all the time and energy put forth to make our fundraiser successful. The funds generated by the Wild Walk ensure that special programs are available to our students at Corbell. With a grateful heart, Mrs. Youngblood

If your child is sick and

has a fever (any tempera-

ture over 100 before Ty-

him/her at home to pre-

vent the spread of illness

to others. We need chil-

dren to be fever free for

24 hours before they re-

turn to school to make

sure they are no longer

contagious.

With flu season upon us,

it is important that we

work together to keep our

children healthy. Viruses

spread easily among chil-

dren in schools, and fami-

lies with school-age chil-

dren have more infections

than others, with an aver-

age of one-third of these

family members infected

each year. By keeping our

children flu-free, we ben-

efit the community as a

vent the spread of flu or

help your child get better

if he/she does get sick by

following a few simple

steps:

If possible, you and

your child should get

Wow! We are already closing in on the end of the first semester and we are off to an amazing start!

Our 9th

Annual Wild Walk was once again a fabulous day that had our students, teachers and parents come together to support our amazing school.

It was incredible to see so many volunteers work col-lectively to pull off such a wonderful event.

Much gratitude goes out to:

Andrew Thomas – our Wild Walk Chair!

The parent volunteers who came out to cheer, mark laps, serve water, take photos and cheer some more!

The Corbell admin-istration and staff for giving the PTA their complete support of this great event!

The Wild Walk spon-sors, without whom the Wild Walk could not exist!

The 700+ Corbell stu-dents who walked and ran their little hearts out!

Miss Bonnie (aka Lau-rie Deckert) for spend-ing the day getting the kids excited, encour-aging them along the way, and making the

event so much fun for everyone!

Coach Travis and Gen-erous George from the Texas Legends who showed up to support Corbell!

And finally, the count-less donors who filled pledge envelopes with money for our school!!

We have surpassed our goal for $30,000!!!

The proceeds from Wild Walk support all of the programs, resources and educational tools that the PTA brings to Corbell. Additionally, the PTA is working with the school to purchase new A/V equip-ment and technology needs, a poster maker, reading materials, Buddy Benches and teacher grants. It is so rewarding to see our students, par-ents and teachers come together to give back to Corbell.

I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. November is packed with PTA activities for your family including our Fall Book Fair from Oct. 31st-Nov. 6

th. Come

see how the Corbell library has been transformed into a castle!

Thank you for all your sup-port,

Multicultural Minute

Did you know there are 311 different languages spoken in the U.S. and that there

are 14 million households where English is not the primary language? We would

love to find out how many are spoken in our Corbell Family! We will be celebrat-

ing Corbell’s diversity through a Multicultural Minute during some of our assem-

blies.

This year we will be filming students in a private setting and

the video will be shown at the assemblies. Students may dress

in their country’s attire (optional) and will say “Good morning

Corbell, my name is _____” in their native language. These stu-

dents will also be featured in Corbell’s Multicultural Minute

bulletin board in the main hallway. We are looking forward to

learning about many different cultures and languages!

If your child would like to participate in the Multicultural Minute, please fill out

the form here and return it to your child’s teacher. We will contact you to sched-

ule a filming session, which will be on selected Monday’s at 3:10 pm in the li-

brary.

If you have any questions about Multicultural Minute please contact the chairper-

son at [email protected].
