Coraline I like the opening for coraline as it is very different to anything else and it also links well with the film. The main actors are shown right at the beginning of the opening sequence with their names looking like they have been sewn onto pieces of material, this fits with the film as a whole and also the rest of the sequence. The material looks battered and old and reminds me a little of dried blood which makes it look quite sinister. It’s also creepy and looks very mystical especially when the doll floats in from the window. The colours are all dark and dingy and the doll is the most colourful thing in the sequence maybe to make it stand out against the dull crèmes and browns. The doll is the main focus so is framed that way. It is almost always at the centre of the screen with many close ups highlighting all the details going into making the new version of the doll. most colourful thing in the sequence maybe to make it stand out against the dull crèmes and browns. The doll is the main focus so is framed that way. It is almost always at the centre of the screen with many close ups highlighting all the details going into making the new version of the doll. As all the details are close up it makes them look

more deadly, like the scissors cutting the dress and the mouth being unstitched. It looks very calculated and even though it is just a doll it looks very creepy and deadly. There is also a draw full of buttons and two of which are sewn on as eyes which is

what happens in the film, already it shows you a tiny bit of what is going to happen. The music also adds to the atmosphere and at the beginning credits it gets louder and louder adding tension along the way especially as the singing is very high pitched. When the singing stops the music turns more mystical and carries on throughout the sequence. The thing doing the stitching has needles for hands which is very creepy and makes me want to

know what it is and why they are stitching this doll. It also shows that he or she stitches things a lot and for a purpose as we see it sending the remodelled doll back through the window which now looks like coraline.
