7.3 advances NetWorker security by adding a new 256-bit encryption directive that can be applied to backups at the client before sending data. This ensures that data is encrypted as it traverses a network and when it is stored on the backup media.
Implementation is robust. In case of server disaster recovery the user will be able to rebuild NW server and get encrypted data back
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a block cipher adopted as an encryption standard by the US government
Block cipher is a symmetric key cipher. Operates on fixed-length groups of bits with unvarying transformation. When encrypting, a block cipher takes a 128-bit block of text as input, and output a corresponding 128-bit block of ciphertext. The transformation is controlled using a secret key. Decryption is similar: the decryption algorithm takes a 128-bit block of ciphertext together with the secret key, and yields the original 128-bit block of plaintext.
NW 7.3 provides a new more-secure method for user and system authentication. It moves away from using reverse name lookup for authentication.
The new methods enable saves/recovers for clients using DHCP service or clients behind a dynamic NAT firewall

Archiving
* Data backup is the process of storing copies of files and
directories from local disk onto removable media, usually
tapes.
* Archiving is normally performed on data associated with
specific objects, rather than on an entire system.
* Archive save sets are similar to backup save sets
but….
-Archives are always full - there are no levels
of differential saves,or incremental saves.
- Archives are not recorded in the online file index
