This copper locket piece was made using rough wirewrapping techniques and rustic beads in contrast withjuicy garnet rondelles and hand-cut AB crystal from the

1930s. The featured pendant cluster includes a vintagecopper and brass locket, a repurposed prism-cutcrystal, and a fat drop of garnet glass, wrapped andcoiled in copper wire. The copper chain from whichthey are suspended is embellished with cast copperbeads, deep red Czech glass with a dark picassofinish, faceted garnets, and hand-cut vintage crystals.

I enjoy marrying elements that are traditionallyincorporated in more formal pieces with those that areusually considered "casual", as well as combiningmodern components with vintage, for a rich contrast.The Victorian-style swag bail and Swarovski crystalscomplement the rugged lip of the fluted copper beadsand the simple vine bead caps. As always, a dangle ofchain links and embellishment

Czech glass and Swarovski biconesfinish the clasp,so the wearer will look lovely coming or going.

Most of the wire weaving in this pendant isbased off of a basketry technique calledCoiling. I learned this method of weavingfrom my mother several years ago. We liketo laugh and say 'I learned it at my mother'sknee". Though her knees were in their 60'sand mine in their 40's when she taught me.

I have since adapted it to wire and playedwith variations in the weave. I have onlyscratched the surface as to the creativeways this technique can be applied to wirejewelry.

I will always be grateful to my Mom forteaching me that day, and I'm pleased shecan have such a personal impact on mywire jewelry designs.

The lower half of this pendant is removableand can be used alone as a brooch.

This Victorian Bliss necklace harkens back to

the days when it was all about elegance. TheVictorian Period ran from 1837-1900 and the detailand grace from that era still captures our

imaginations. This illustrious piece features agrand fiber optic & pale blue brass pendant with afiligreed black connector all very indicative of theday, and the 28" to 40" length of this necklace iscommon for necklaces of that time. Copper wire,used as the primary element for joining thisnecklace together, is what sets this piece apart.

Though noted as the first metal discovered byPrehistoric Man between 10,000and 13,000 years ago, Coppers

use in jewelry construction wasprimarily limited to using it as abase metal in the making of goldand brass findings.

The history of this intriguing metalis a long and varied one, rising andfalling in its value to society.

Today copper is found in all aspects of our life, andthe value can vary tremendously. Ancient beliefs inits ability to improve and protect ones health

coincide with todays New Age belief that itstimulates ones mental and psychic flow of the

bodies own energy.

No matter how you use it, copper has been and willremain a vital part of jewelry production. The manyaspects of copper is what makes it such adesirable and intriguing medium to work with. Andto this writer, copper is worth its weight in gold!
