    With almost 40 years of existence, The COPPEAD Graduate School of Business Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is the only internationally accredited Schoolof Management belonging to the Brazilian public system.

    The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), almost 100 years old, is not onlyone of the oldest and most respected higher education institutions in Brazil, butalso the largest university in the federal educational system.

    Our mission is to contribute to the development of Brazil by providing education topresent and future business leaders who are able to perform highly both in thelocal and global environment, and to new faculty who can disseminate and createinnovative knowledge in business.

    ALMOST A CENTURY OFKnowledge & Tradition

    The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is one of the oldest and mostrespected higher education institutions in Brazil, and also the largest university inthe federal educational system.

    The UFRJ comprises 4 campi. The biggest one, with an area of 5,2 million squaremeters, is the Fundo Island campus where COPPEAD is located.

    The UFRJ is organized into six Centers with a total of 49 academic units (Schools &Institutes), which are responsible for 139 undergraduate & 178 graduate programs(Masters and Doctoral programs), besides a large selection of specialization andcontinuing education courses.

    For example, the School of Medicine is involved in state of the art research inbiosciences and has three hospitals. The School of Engineering has two Institutesfor high technology research and two incubators.

    There are approximately 3.500 professors and 45.000 students. The UFRJ alsoboasts 43 libraries, 930 labs and seven museums with some of the largest history,music and art collections in the country. It also publishes over 120 scientificjournals besides other publications, such as magazines and pedagogicallyoriented materials.

    The UFRJ Technology Park is one of the nation's premier research anddevelopment facilities. A unique environment dedicated to the development ofbreakthrough technology and its transfer from the laboratories to the marketplace.In an area of 350 thousand square meters, in the Fundo Island campus, it isexpected, by 2014, to be home to over 200 companies generating over 5000 highlyqualified research jobs.

    The Technology Park is a vibrant world-class business community of innovative,high-tech corporate Research Centers. It is anchored by some of the mostimportant Technology Labs and Research Centers in the country, such as IEN(Institute of Nuclear Engineering), CEPEL (Research Center on Electric Energy)and CENPES (the PETROBRAS Research Center). It also concentrates nationaland global companies such as Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, BG, SIEMENS,USIMINAS, ESSS, FMC Technologies, Halliburton and Tenaris, while many othersare due to build or are building their Research Centers, such as General Electricand L'Oral, just to name two.

    The Technology Park thrives with the energy of creation, the spectrum ofpossibilities and exceptional atmosphere for discovery and growth. It is a place tocreate the technology of tomorrow mainly focusing on the pre-salt challenges ofthe Oil & Gas industry, energy, the environment and information technology.

    The Technology Park also generates great opportunities for medium and small sizetechnology-based companies. One of the ongoing projects is The InnovationTower, which, upon completion, will house over a 100 medium and smallcompanies.

    In brief, the UFRJ Technology Park provides a thriving environment for leadingresearch, academic and business collaboration, and networking.

    AN INTERNATIONAL CULTURE

    COPPEAD has always focused on forming and educating managers withinternational exposure, ready to operate in multicultural environments and topursue international careers.

    Thus, COPPEAD has internationalized by forming strategic alliances with highlyreputed and internationally accredited business schools in the five continents.

    The alliances and partnerships contemplate student exchange agreements andover 400 course-hours in English during the exchange terms for the Full-time MBAProgram, visiting professors, study-weeks, dual-degree opportunities andinternational modules for the Executive MBA Program, among others.

    Exchange terms at COPPEAD, when the offer of elective disciplines in English isconcentrated, run from approximately mid July to early October and from midOctober to before Christmas. COPPEAD receives exchange students from partnerinstitutions in North & South America, Western & Eastern Europe, Asia, Oceaniaand Africa, fostering a real multicultural environment.

    Focusing on regional integration, in 2008, COPPEAD took the initiative to foundALADEN (the Latin American Alliance of Business Schools) with internationallyaccredited Business schools in Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, mainly

    targeting the understanding of the Latin American business context and wealthcreation, in terms of the socio economic development of the home-countries of thefive members. The SLAE (Latin-American Study-Week) is offered every year, inSpanish, on a rotary basis by ALADEN member institutions.

    Other international partnerships include Building Ventures in Latin America(designed to prepare students to build and grow successful businesses in today'schanging marketplace); Dual-Degree agreements with three internationallyaccredited French business schools for our Executive MBA students, The GlobalPartners (a Full-time International MBA program with a US and a European

    partner), the International Consortium of Executive MBA programs (a 10 daysmodule offered simultaneously by the partner schools located in Europe, NorthAmerica, Latin America and Asia) and the International Practicum for Full-timeMBA students (a one-week intensive program together with a US partner, wherestudents work together in consultancy projects for Brazilian companies)

    The Full-time MBA (Msc.)

    COPPEAD's Full-time MBA, a post-experience 18 months and 800hrs tuition-freeprogram, is a hybrid model comprising the main features of Academic andProfessional Masters. The program emphasizes the theory/practice and

    research/application perspectives with a focus on best practices in managementat the national and international levels.

    This model combines a generalist approach with a specialization resulting fromthe specific research field chosen for the dissertation (an additional requirement inorder to be awarded the MSc degree, which can extend the duration of theprogram to totalize, approximately, 24 months). The concentration areas offeredby the program are: Finance & Managerial Control; Marketing & InternationalBusiness; Operations, Technology & Logistics and Organizations, Strategy &Information Systems.

    In order to provide students with a solid business education, integrating thedifferent functional areas, the program employs a diversified methodologicalapproach that includes case studies, computerized business simulations,dynamics, role-plays and participation in consulting projects, among others.

    The Full-time MBA also has an exchange program with partner schools in the fivecontinents; a summer-job or internship program; a job market re-entry week withthe participation of top national and multinational companies; the SLAE (LatinAmerican study-week) to acquire knowledge of the Latin American businessenvironment; a careers office that organizes lectures, counseling, group activities

    & individual assessment; multicultural projects; opportunities to participate inresearch groups and in international business competitions.

    This program designed to comply with the highest international standards isrecognized as a label in business education in Brazil and, increasingly, in the worldthanks to the EQUIS accreditation and to its ranking in the Financial Times.

    A PROGRAM FOR EACH PROFILEThe Doctoral Program (Dsc.)

    As part of the School's mission to educate new faculty who can create anddisseminate innovative knowledge in business, the Doctoral Program is a fouryears, full-time, tuition-free course. A doctoral thesis is the final requirement to beawarded the DSc. Degree. The Doctoral Program includes the possibility ofspending approximately 6 months at a university abroad as part of the thesisdevelopment.

    The program is structured to train professionals in teaching; research andconsultancy who already have significant experience and are seeking anacademic standard of excellence. Its cornerstones are a humanist perspective anda solid theoretical foundation.

    Developed for working managers, COPPEAD's Executive Education portfoliocomprises a wide range of programs including Executive Part-time MBA (400hrs),Specialization (360hrs) & Extension (180hrs) programs, Young ProfessionalsTraining programs (160hrs), Advanced Management programs and Customizedprograms. These programs benefit, to a high degree, from the same expert facultyas the degree-granting programs.

    A PROGRAM FOR EACH PROFILE

    Executive Part-time MBAThe COPPEAD Executive Part-time MBA aims to establish a global view inbusiness management in order to develop practical skills in management,targeting middle to senior executives and mingling theoretical knowledge with theparticipants' experience. Thus, a variety of methodological approaches are used,such as case studies, dynamics and simulations. The 400hrs program lastsapproximately 11 months and classes take place once a week during the wholeday.

    The program offers a 10 days international module that simultaneously takes placeat the partner schools of the International Consortium, which are located inEurope, North America, Latin America and Asia.

    The program also offers dual-degree opportunities with three internationallyaccredited French Business schools, which require a 6 weeks stay at the selectedFrench school doing 150 course-hours plus a business project that can be done inBrazil with the supervision of a French tutor. Upon the successful completion of thedual-degree requirements students are awarded the International MBA of thechosen French School.

    and the Seahas been inscribed upon the World Heritage List of theConvention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural

    Heritage. Inscription on this List confirms the exceptional universal value ofa cultural or natural site, which deserves protection for the benefit of allhumanity.

    " The listed site consists of an exceptional urban setting rather than builtheritage. It encompasses the key natural elements that have shaped andinspired the development of the city: from the highest points of the TijucaNational Parks mountains down to the sea. They also include the BotanicalGardens, established in 1808, Corcovado Mountain with its celebrated

    statue of Christ and the hills around Guanabara Bay, including the extensivedesigned landscapes along Copacabana Bay which have contributed tothe outdoor living culture of this spectacular city.
