Note from the Pro
As we head into June and the summer golf season, we begin to
think about the majors. And while the tour gears up for the U.S.
Open, British Open and PGA Championship, we are gearing up for
our majors. We have our Member-Guest tournament early in June
and the Senior Club Championship coming up at the end of June,
so please mark your calendars for these events.
I’m also pleased to announce another comprehensive summer
junior program at Coosaw Creek this year. We will be hosting
summer junior camps and will be participating in junior interclub
matches which will begin this month. We also will be debuting
the Little Links golf season in July for juniors to play golf in a
“team” concept and get accustomed to competitive golf in a fun
environment. We feel we have some great summer events and
programs to offer to you and hope that we will see everyone out on
the links.

HANDICAPSULE
Hole Handicap Allocations
One of the most misunderstood aspects of the USGA Handicap System concerns the “Stroke Hole Allocation” at a golf
course. Golfers often refer to the No. 1 stroke hole as the most difficult on the course. This may or may not be true.
The generally used method of ranking does not represent the difficulty of the holes. Instead it represents the ranking of
the holes where a higher handicap golfer most needs a stroke in order to tie a lower handicap golfer in a match. How is
this “need” determined?
In early 2007 Harmon Shade, then a member of the Golf Committee, and the Handicap Committee collected hole by
hole scores from men golfers playing the white tees (the most used tees) and from women playing the green tees. The
results were averaged for a group of low handicap and a group of high handicap golfers and the difference between
these two groups’ average scores was sorted from high to low and the holes were ranked accordingly.
The largest difference at our course occurred at hole No.14. The men’s low handicap
golfers average score was 5.080, while the high handicap golfers average score was
6.353, a difference of 1.273 strokes. In a match between a scratch and a 1 handicap golf-
er or between a 20 and a 21 handicap golfer, the higher handicap golfer would get (and
probably appreciate) a handicap stroke on the hole. This hole became the No.1 handicap
hole. The No.2 handicap hole then had to be the highest ranked hole on the front nine.
This was hole No.8 with a score difference of 1.155 strokes. The smallest difference in
the average scores occurred at hole No. 15, a difference of 0.592 strokes. At Coosaw, due
to the front nine to back nine ratings, this hole is rated at No. 17. The same procedure
was used to allocate the stroke holes for the Green Tees using the women’s average
scores.
The difference between the average scores of most of the holes is in fractions of strokes,
so the overall effect on the result of a match because of the ranking will be minimal.
However the ranking was done carefully and mathematically. If it becomes necessary to
do a new ranking, some time in the future, the results will be more accurate if we can
collect more scores from both groups of golfers.

A revision to our Delinquent Member Account Policy was approved by the BOD with its effective date of
May 1, 2012, in an effort to reduce bad debt expenses.
Please pay special attention to the revisions in red below. The Club offers an automatic payment service at no addi-
tional charge to assist members in keeping their club accounts current. Contact Karen at ext 207 to set that up for
you or if you have any questions or concerns.
DELINQUENT MEMBER ACCOUNT POLICY
Amended 04/12/2012
30 DAY RULE: Once a member’s account has an unpaid balance for more than 30 days and a member has not re-
quested review, clarification or disputed all or a portion of the amount overdue, or formally applied for acceptance into
the Hardship Program – a member may not participate in premier activities such as golf tournaments or swim meets
and the member’s privileges to charge through a member account are suspended. The member may use cash or a credit
card to settle ongoing charges, fees or dues. The member shall be advised of this change in benefits and the other key
elements of this policy.
60 DAY RULE/$1,000 RULE: Once a member’s account has either an unpaid balance of 60 or more days or has a
past due balance of over $1,000, or has not signed an agreement under the Hardship Program, the member’s privileges
to use the Club and all its facilities and grounds are suspended. Club privileges include use of golf, pool, tennis,
basketball and the dining facility. The suspension will remain in effect until the account is paid in full.
90 DAY RULE: Once a member’s account has an unpaid balance of 90 or more days the account will be turned over
for collections. Collection action may include legal action such as small claims court and/or lien against the member’s
home or other property or assets.
120 DAY RULE: Unless specifically agreed by the Club to the contrary via the Hardship Program, the Club shall
commence legal action, i.e., garnishment, small claims court and/or lien or other adverse action to collect the sums
owed to the Club.

dues, debts, charges and fees. The Club shall also assess a late payment penalty in the amount of $29.00 per month.
CHARGING PRIVILEGES: If a member falls into charge denied status (as noted by the 30 day rule above) more
than twice, the member’s charging privileges will be permanently suspended. Member charge privileges may be
reinstated only by providing a credit card for automatic end of month payment. If credit card charges are denied,
charging privileges will again be suspended.
SUSPENSION/REVOCATION OF MEMBERSHIP: In addition to pursuing any legal remedy the Club may elect,
the Club shall suspend and/or may revoke all or part of the individual’s membership. Membership privileg-es of a
delinquent member will be suspended, in whole or in part, as stated herein and, at the discretion of the Board may be
revoked at any time while deemed delinquent. Revocation of membership for delinquency shall forfeit the member’s
interest in any payment or return of any Equity purchase, initiation fee or deposit for any membership privi-lege,
including any golf or other deposit or refund otherwise due from the Club to the member.
