092 Intermediate Administrator CertificationThrough collaboration with Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), Fairfield County teachers can complete the 092 Certification program in two years by meeting once a week on SCSU’s campus or a designated Fairfield County location.

093 Superintendent CertificationThrough collaboration with SCSU, Fairfield County administrators can complete the 093 Superintendent Certification program in two years by meeting once a week on SCSU’s campus or at a designated Fairfield County location.

C.E.S. Transportation Services Department provides safe, reliable, and cost effective transportation to students in Fairfield and New Haven Counties. Our fleet includes passenger vans and wheelchair lift-equipped vans, allowing flexibility to use the appropriate vehicles fitting the needs of students being transported.

Each year, C.E.S. vehicles travel more than 650,000 miles to provide transportation to and from school on a daily basis, as well as field trips and other school activities.

All of our vehicles are also equipped with two-way radios which are monitored by a dispatcher at all times.

The C.E.S. Transportation Services Department maintains an aggressive preventive maintenance program in which each vehicle is inspected and serviced on a regular schedule. All vehicles are inspected twice a year by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

Our StaffThe C.E.S. transportation staff is managed by a transportation professional. Our drivers are required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination, a national criminal background check, and a drug test before being hired. Once hired, all Transportation Department employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Ongoing defensive driving and passenger sensitivity training programs are mandatory, and all of our drivers must be licensed with the school transportation endorsement from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles. All of our drivers also wear a C.E.S. uniform for easy identification.

Creating Positive School ClimatesThe Importance of Positive School ClimatesEducational research spanning the last 20 years highlights the importance of school climate and its effect on individual student experience. Positive school climate is directly related to increased student achievement, better social and emotional well-being, lower rates of challenging behaviors, lower drop out rates, fewer instances of absenteeism and risk prevention in students.

The Connecticut Legislature enacted Public Act No. 11-232: An Act Concerning the Strengthening of School Bullying Laws in 2011. The law aims to prevent bullying and protect the rights of students to learn without fear

of humiliation, teasing and/or assault. The law was proposed in response to research that found a correlation between lower student achievement and bullying. Among other provisions, the law requires that all school districts in Connecticut engage in annual training to prevent and respond to student bullying, abuse and suicide.

Create Positive School ClimatesC.E.S. provides customized services for planning and implementation in addition to the professional development opportunities such as investigation training, updates to state legislation seminars, PBIS, cyberbullying workshops, training for paraprofessionals, training for non-certified school staff, youth suicide prevention and training for parents.

Technology ServicesC.E.S. Information Technology Services are available to districts for all computer related services such as email, internet access, data storage and printing. The C.E.S. Information Technology department uses state-of-the-art hardware inventory to manage the agency’s computer and networking equipment.

The department also offers Help Desk staff to provide hardware and software troubleshooting and repair services.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a decision-making framework that guides selection, integration and implementation of the best, evidence-based, academic and behavioral practices for improving academic and behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS emphasizes four integrated elements: DATA for decision making, measurable OUTCOMES supported and evaluated by data, PRACTICES with evidence that these outcomes are achievable, and SYSTEMS that efficiently and effectively support implementation of these practices.

C.E.S. offers training to member schools and districts that seek to establish a comprehensive research-based behavioral framework to guide them in the selection and implementation of best practices for improving academic and behavior outcomes for all students.

Teams are comprised of participants designated to receive training to select and implement best evidence-based practices into the schools scientific research-based intervention strategy.

Who should be trained in PBIS?

• Team Training is provided to each school’s implementation team - a group of eight people including an administrator, teachers, professional staff, support staff, and parents.

• PBIS Coaches Training is provided to one or two staff in each school who are responsible for helping staff throughout the implementation process.

• When an entire district adopts the PBIS model, a district leadership team should also be trained.

• School Climate Coordinators and Specialists are also trained.

Six to Six Magnet School is a preK through grade eight C.E.S. school where high academic standards facilitate the development of lifelong learners and independent thinkers. The philosophy of the school centers on the belief that all children can learn at higher levels when schools engage in effective communication, parental and community involvement, high expectations, ongoing assessment, intentional teaching, and collaboration. Student learning and assessment are the points of focus for teacher professional growth and school improvement planning.

The Six to Six Interdistrict Magnet School curriculum includes instruction in art, music, physical education, library media, and Spanish. To meet the needs of today’s families, the school offers before and after school

programs, full-time NAEYC accredited preschool and kindergarten programs, a Family Resource Center, and a school-based Health Center.

The mission of Six to Six is to foster educational excellence and life-long learning in an atmosphere that honors each child’s physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs within a diverse school community based on mutual respect and a sense of social conscience.

School Readiness is a comprehensive, high quality early childhood program for three- and four-year-olds who reside in Bridgeport. Our hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 50 weeks per year. Students are required to attend the program for a minimum of six hours per day.

The School Readiness philosophy centers on the belief that each child is a unique learner with his/her own cultural identity, learning style, temperament, and developmental pattern.

Each of these factors influences how the child learns and grows; development and learning are interconnected in the preschool years. We believe that each child’s family is an important partner in the daily care and education of their children. Staff members strive to know each child as an individual and to work in partnership with the

family to know, understand and plan appropriate learning experiences for each child in their care. A warm, caring relationship between teachers and children is the foundation for creating a nurturing classroom community where children respect, care for, and learn from one another.

C.E.S. Regional Center for the Arts (RCA) is a part-time public interdistrict magnet high school for Fairfield County students interested in the performing arts. Applications are available online. All applicants are required to audition before acceptance into the program.

RCA students are taught by professionals active in the performing arts industry. RCA faculty has extensive experience in acting in soap operas, primetime television series, on

stage, on Broadway, off Broadway, in professional dance companies, and operas, as well as symphonies and professional ensembles. The faculty is involved in a number of projects. Many are active performers, some teach at the collegiate level, and others organize and promote arts education programs throughout the region.

All have worked in the performing arts industry for many years.

The mission of RCA is to bring together people of diverse cultural heritage to develop, in all students, the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self discipline to reach their fullest artistic potential, to live a productive life and to contribute to society as creative, engaged citizens.

Preschool-Primary Learning CenterThe Preschool-Primary Learning Center (PLC) is a regional program for children ages 3-12 who fall within the Autism Spectrum Disorder continuum or with severe communication impairment. PLC enrolls students with a wide range of difficulties in the areas of emotional, behavioral, social, communication, and academic functioning. Student abilities range from 12 months to second grade academics.

Developmental Learning CenterThe Developmental Learning Center (DLC) is a regional program for children ages 11-21 who fall within the Autism Spectrum Disorder continuum or with severe language impairment. DLC offers intensive positive behavioral support in a highly structured environment.

Reaching Independence through Supported Education Transition ProgramThe Reaching Independence through Supported Education (RISE) program is a collaboration among C.E.S. member districts and Sacred Heart University. Students with developmental disabilities who have completed four years of high school and are within two years of exiting (between ages 19-21) are eligible.

Therapeutic Day ProgramThe Therapeutic Day Program (TDP) enrolls students with a wide range of difficulties in the areas of emotional, behavioral, social, and academic functioning. These students may have attention deficit/hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, school avoidance issues, behavioral dyscontrol, oppositional behavior, mood instability, and the social impairment associated with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) or Asperger’s Syndrome.
