Cool Spot Story 33 Cool Spot Story 33 (16.06.2014) – Lightening up with the Solar-powered Lamps Greenpeace Southeast Asia (GPSEA) held a 6 days seminar (April 22-27,2014) with organizations and partner schools namely De La Salle University - Dasmarinas, St. Scholastica's College-Manila, Don Bosco Technical College and Boy Scout of The Philippines in the Train the Trainers Solar Workshop at the Trinidad Tecson Elementary School-Manila The training is in collaboration with the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Scout leaders are able to do solar badge activities with their groups and have some more solar know- how than what the solar badge requires from scouts. It also aims to train partner schools on renewable energy, particularly solar energy led by Doctor Michael Götz from Switzerland. A Generation Speaks: I've been really thankful this day. It was because I was chosen to be a part of this workshop-training about solar energy, and I was really proud of the things I learn in here. One of it was the solar energy lecture by a resource speaker that tackled about the basic knowledge about the solar energy, the net metering, which is selling excess energy to the source provider (which is Meralco), the two types of the solar system : the stand alone (battery powered), and grid lined (connected to the electrical posts). I also had fun making the solar lamp, even if I got a minor burn in my finger, I still had fun, especially when the mini LED light bulb started to light up, and when we are having a game about choosing the best and cost-efficient appliances and gadgets to be used and the electricity being consumed by a household. It was really a fun experience today and I really wish to have one more activity like this until the end of the sessions. PHOTOS by A.
