THE UMBILI-KIT™

DIVERGENTmedical technologies

The Umbili-KIT System was designed to reduce or eliminate clinical care procedural errors, discharge mistakes and incorrect identification resulting in the discharge of infants to the wrong families.

The system provides essential, built-in redundancy through the use of a matching numbered sterile umbilical cord clamp, numbered identification band, optional numbered stick-on labels, and identification cards.

PRESIDENT’S WELCOME LETTERWelcome to Atlanta and AWHONN’s 50th anniversary! I hope you all will join me in celebration at our Glitz and Glamour President’s Party, Monday, June 10, 8:00 – 10:30 pm at the Omni Hotel.

This is a special year for AWHONN and for all of you who helped make AWHONN the organization it is today, and who continue to shape our future.

Over the next several days, look for many of AWHONN’s past presidents wearing gold sashes. We are so fortunate to have them here with us and I thank them for their service.

These leaders exemplify the theme of my opening speech, “Ask Why, Dream Big, and Step Up.” You have an opportunity during this Convention to reflect on those values and consider how you can incorporate them into your practice and your life.

We have lined up speakers and educators who are the best in their fields. Soak up what they have to offer and make it your own. While we celebrate and honor our last 50 years, we are also facing forward in anticipation of the future. It is nurses like you who will lift us up and shine the light on the important issues we face in patient safety.

We are the future of AWHONN.

Cheryl Roth, PhD, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB, RNFA2019 President, AWHONN Board of Directors

Therefore, speech and actions that create an unsafe space for attendees at AWHONN confer-ences or other public forums including AWHONN sponsored social media shall not be permitted.

INTRODUCING THE

EVACU BBABY EVACUATION SYSTEM

The EVACU B is a revolutionary product for the safe evacuation of newborns. There is no other device like the EVACU B in the world.

TRACK GLIDER

The EVACU B can provide one nurse with the

capability of evacuating six babies and glide down a

flight of stairs with no bouncing.

WHEELS

The EVACU B can travel down the hall using its

wheels.

Once safely outside, all six babies can be left inside

the EVACU B.

HEADRESTS AND SAFE MATERIALS

The newborns are placed in pockets made of a fire

retardant and mildew resistant material. Their heads

are then secured in adjustable headrests made from

hypoallergenic high density foam.

REVERSIBLE HAND BRAKES

If a nurse needs to stop on the stairs, releasing the

Reversible Brake Handle will automatically stop the

chair on the stairs.

OXYGEN PROVISION

The EVACU B can supply O2 to the six infants with

our six way splitter with individual LPM volume

control.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends screening patients at least once during the perinatal period using a standardized, validated tool.14 Some examples of these tools include the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9).15,16

CLOSING GENERAL SESSION INSPIRED NURSE RICH BLUNI, RN

Healthcare, and nursing in particular, is one of the few professions that affords one the opportunity to impact lives on such a profound level, not only physically but emotionally and spiritually as well. Yet

the same qualities that make the nursing profession so deeply rewarding can also make it a challenge for us to sustain our energy and passion over time. The “Inspired Nurse” presentation helps us maintain and recapture those elusive qualities. Those of us who call healthcare our life’s work must also take care of ourselves in order to be able to do the challenging physical, emotional and intellectual work that it takes to serve others.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

Contribute to AWHONN’s mission to improve the health of women and newborns by submitting an abstract for oral or poster presentation at the Annual Convention in Phoenix, June 13-17, 2020.

The education program seeks timely, rel-evant and educationally sound topics that feature evidence based information, best practices and nursing research intended to engage our attendees and help AWHONN nurses thrive in today’s ever changing health care environment.

For information on criteria, further instruc-tions, and access to AWHONN’s submission site go to awhonn.org/2020abstracts.

If you have questions please contact Carolyn Vanderwyst at [email protected].
