Hong Kong Guide!
From the Airport: You have a few options from the airport. Firstly, there is the Airport Express train that departs every 10 minutes and will take you into Central District on Hong Kong island in 25 minutes. This costs HK$100 per person. From there a taxi to Causeway Bay or Wan Chai will cost you no more than HK$50. Secondly, you can catch a taxi directly from the airport. To both Causeway Bay and Wan Chai this will cost approx. HK$350 and will take about 40-45 minutes depending on traffic. Lastly, Some hotels run shuttle buses, but please check your hotel does first!
Sightseeing: The Peak: Out-of-this world view of skyscrapers and the glittering harbour. Catch the Peak Tram from just up the hill from Hong Kong Park. Quite rightly Hong Kong’s top sightseeing spot! Stanley Market: For all your souvenirs. Some good pubs their too especially "Smugglers". Ocean Park: Thrill rides, giant Pandas, a world class aquarium amongst many more attractions is the reason Ocean park is consistently voted in the top 10 theme parks in the world. Situated on the Southside of HK Island. Adult (over 12) Day Ticket $280, Child Day Ticket $140, Disneyland: Magic, adventure and the world’s favourite cast of characters await in the newest of Disneyland’s theme parks is situated on Lantau Island. Adult (over 12) Day Ticket $450, Child Day Ticket $320, The Big Buddha: A beautiful monastery and an impressive giant, bronze Buddha set in the natural beauty of Lantau Island. Temple Street Night Market: Souvenirs, snacks, opera singers and fortune tellers! Star Ferry & Tsim Sha Tsui: The ferry journey is a highlight in itself. Take the ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) and take in the spectacular view that is Hong Kong Island. Each night at 8pm there is a light & laser show and the best viewpoint is from the TST promenade. Central District & The Mid-Levels Escalator: Travel up the escalator to Hollywood Rd to visit Man Mo temple, also loads of good restaurants in the SoHo district. Be sure to check out www.discoverhongkong.com before you travel.
Nightlife: There are two main nightlife districts in Hong Kong. Wan Chai and Lan Kwai Fong (LKF). Also just up the hill from LKF is the burgeoning Wyndham Street. Bars are plentiful in Hong Kong and they stay open late! We at the Hong Kong RSC definitely recommend the following bear friendly bars: Trafalgar, The Pawn & The Junk Pub!
Getting Around: The Hong Kong transport system is second to none. The local underground system is called the MTR (Mass transit Railway) and is fast, clean, cheap and efficient! Taxis are plentiful and cheap! They have no late night charges and start at HK$20 per journey. There are also the local trams (ding-dings!) to get you around. These cost $2.30 no matter the length of journey. This is also the same cost as the Star Ferry which will take you from Hong Kong island to Kowloon – This is a “must-do” journey!
Money: Banks and ATM’s are plentiful and there are many money exchange shops in and around Causeway Bay
