Introduction The following release notes are for the August 2015 install of WorldCat Discovery Services scheduled for August 21st. This release includes some highly requested enhancements and addresses some bugs reported by our users.

Include Request ID with problem reports When reporting an issue with WorldCat Discovery, it would be extremely helpful to include the Request ID. The Request ID is found on the bottom of the screen on which the issue occurred. Including this information allows us to directly trace what happened on the particular request we are troubleshooting.

New Features and Enhancements

Get It Now Available in Integrated Link Resolution in WorldCat Discovery

Get It Now Overview

Get It Now, which provides full-text articles from unsubscribed journals, is available in integrated link resolution in WorldCat Discovery.

When a user clicks the link, they will be presented with the Get It Now terms and conditions. When those are accepted, the user will be presented with the Get It Now confirmation.

Configuring Get It Now

Libraries with a subscription to Get It Now configure the Get It Now collection in Collection Manager under “Provider Settings.”

Additionally, you set up the journals to which you want to provide fulfillment. There are two ways to do this.

1. Select titles one at a time.

In Collection Manager, search for the “Get It Now” collection, select it, and then choose the titles you want.

2. Select titles based on specific publishers using the Kbart file.

In Collection Manager, open the Get It Now collection titles. Open “More Actions” and select “Download.”

5

Choose “Available titles in collection and UTF-8. Click “Download.”

Open the file in Excel and sort by publisher_name (column P).

Once the file is sorted you can remove the providers you wish to not turn on in your Get It Now collection. Example: I wanted to only select Wiley so I removed all names except Wiley in the publisher_name column.

6

Save the file as tab delimited text file in UTF-8 format and upload the file to your Get It Now collection in Collection Manager using the same steps you did to download.

This will select only the titles in the collection that you saved in downloaded Kbart file.

Display Availability and Location information on brief results In WorldCat Discovery we have been displaying availability and location information on the search results for WorldShare Management Services (WMS) subscribers. With the August release we will now provide this information for any WorldCat Discovery library that has purchased the Availability option. This has been a highly requested feature from our current Discovery subscribers.

There are two additions to the display:

1) Summary statement and button following the title (i.e. 1 of 1 available) so that a patron can immediately see and move to the availability information to take further action, and,

2) Following the brief information about the item there is a new line showing an availability statement. It will include Location, Call number, Status indicator and Status message.

To take advantage of this new feature, ensure that you have configured to display item availability on search results in OCLC Service Configuration > OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies > Item Availability from the OPAC. Please note WorldCat Discovery will display item availability on all items types with this configuration.

Display Editions and Formats on brief results Another highly requested enhancement coming in August is the option to show the editions and formats link for a particular item immediately on the search results. This will allow users looking for a known item to quickly link from the brief results to the list of other editions and formats available. If there are no editions and formats available for a particular item, that information is also noted with the brief display.

Discovery libraries that wish to make this available for the patrons must enable the option through OCLC Service Configuration > My WorldCat > User Interface Options > General Display Settings > Display other Editions & Formats on search results. The default setting will be Disable at the time of release.

Proxy servers now require HTTPS technology To improve the security of your library’s technology services, WorldCat Discovery now requires HTTPS for everything—even your library’s logo. It also means, any proxy you use to access WorldCat Discovery now requires a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) setup.

• If you use OCLC EZproxy, please find the documentation for SSL configuration. • For other proxy software, please contact your vendor to set up SSL.

NOTE: Please ensure you purchase the proper certificate for your library. OCLC recommends that you purchase Certificate Authority Issued Wildcard certificate for seamless and secure functionality. (What’s the difference in certificates?) You will not have to add domains to your certificates if you have a CA Issued Wildcard certificate. Please make sure that your SSL certificate contains the domains below, so your WorldCat Discovery pages will format properly. Example: Assuming the site has a domain called "koneillibrary.edu" and the library URL for Discovery as somelibrary.on.worldcat.org, the following name should already be one of the SANs on your proxy certificate. WAM example:

0-somelibrary.on.worldcat.org.koneillibrary.edu EZproxy example:

somelibary.on.worldcat.org.koneillibrary.edu Your site’s certificate administrator can add new domains to your certificate. You may get a replacement or a totally new certificate from the certificate authority (CA). Here are two example SANs to add with your URLs to your new certificate signing request (CSR): WAM example:

0-www.oclc.org.koneillibrary.edu 0-static2.worldcat.org.koneillibrary.edu

EZproxy example:

www.oclc.org.koneillibrary.edu static2.worldcat.org.koneillibrary.edu

We recommend you test your proxy connection to ensure it’s using the HTTPs protocol and rendering the appropriate WorldCat Discovery user interface.

If you find that your proxy connection is a problem and you cannot make the connection via HTTPs, please contact OCLC Customer Support (U.S.) at [email protected], or 800-848-5800, or +1-614-793-8682, or click here for OCLC Support in your region.

Bug fixes

Course Reserves option requires Time Zone setting In August an issue was reported where a library was unable to create Course Reserves, they were receiving an Oops page. This turned out to be a configuration issue, Course Reserves will not function properly unless there is a time zone setting for the libraries’ open hours. This setting can be found in OCLC Service Configuration > WorldCat Registry > Open Hours.

Integrated Link Resolver, A to Z list, Browse Collections pagination issue resolved We have fixed a bug in ILR, where Browse Collections pagination was not functioning properly. This was an issue reported by some Discovery libraries and it has been resolved with the August install.
