Labour welfare activity in India was largely influence by humanitarian principles and

legislation. Labour welfare is an important fact of industrial relations the extra dimension, giving

satisfaction to the worker in way, which even a good wage can’t. With the growth of

industrialization and mechanization, it has acquired ad importance. In our modern industrial

Society. The concept of the labour welfare has seemed significant importance. Because it is

closely associated with the productivity of labour turnover absenteeism, morale and other

economic, non-economic consideration of Labour.

In a resolution in 1947. The International Labour Organization (ILO),Defined labour

welfare as “ such services, facilities and amenities as adequate canteens, rest and recreation

facilities, arrangements for travel to and from work and for the accommodation of workers

employed at a distance from their house, and such other services, amenities and facilities as

contribute to improve the conditions under which workers are employed”.

According to encyclopedia of social science, the term labour welfare means “The

voluntary effort of the employer to establish within the existing industrial system, working

conditions under which workers are employed”.

According to oxford dictionary the term labour welfare means “Effort to make life

worth living for workers”.

committee of 1949 have become a part of the employer’s statutory obligation. The

different methods of welfare amenities are organized today for industrial.

In India, the concept of labour welfare has undergone so many changes and

developments. Many acts were passed and committees formed to improve the

welfare measures of the workers. Some of the acts are follows.

The factories act of 1948 was milestone in the history of labour welfare in

India. This act is applicable to all persons or more when no power is used. The

major provisions enumerated under theaters,health,safty,welfare regulations on

working condition,res,overtime work, and holiday, spread over etc.,

1949:

The employee’s state insurance act was passed to provide benefits to

workers in the event of stickiness, employment injury etc...

1951:

The plantation labour act was passed to regulate the working condition and

welfare provision for the workers employed in plantation.

1952:

The mines act was enacted to care of welfare of the mines.

1952:

Employees provident fund [miscellaneous provisions] act 1952 was enacted.

1961:

Maternity benefit act 1961 was enhanced to provide Maternity benefit to

The women workers

1970:

To protect the welfare of contact labour act 1970 was enacted.

1972:

Payment of gratuities act 1972 was enhanced to provide a lump sum

payment at the time of retirement.

1986:

To take care of the welfare of the child labour, though there was provision

for them in so many acts, a special legation called the child labour [Prohibition and

Regulation] act 1986 was enacted.

A part from this the workmen compensation act 1923, payment of wages act

1936 minimum wages act 1948 payment o wages act 1965 act. To regulate workers

also the industrial employment act 1946, the industrial dispute Act 1947, the grade

union act were enacted in order to make a smooth working Life for the workmen

Jileby Dhal

This is the pierce de resistant of our dhal products. For the first time

commercially introduced by Mr.T.V. Arunchla Nadar himself, in the country it is a

used for preparing traditional and scrumption sweet dish called Jileby, mostly

confined to south India.

Black Gram Dhal:

In this mill gram is the major raw material in the production of yarn

purchase department plays a major role in the company. The grams samples are

received from various suppliers are tested with HIGH VOLUME

INSTRUMENTS. The director of this company has direct control over this

department and grams supervisor and store supervisor assisted him. This purchase

department not concentrates the purchase spares and other packing materials.

This department maintains regular stock register for grams, spares well as

for the packing materials. The main function of the department is to get quotations

from different suppliers, analyzing the samples, placing order with the suppliers.

These raw materials are purchased at reasonable rate and quality the

company stores raw materials at least for three months production.

After the receipts of the goods, the storekeeper enters the particular in the

share register. The following documents are maintained the stores.

PROCEDURE FOR PURCHASE

The purchase of gram is headed by managing director samples are collected

from the different merchant and taken to the mill for testing. The report produced

the testing machine are carefully read by the managing director. The samples

which compile the expected quality norms are segregated out the order are placed

with the merchant. The merchant will supply the order quality directly to the mill.

The mill purchases different varieties of gram from different areas and from

the different suppliers some of the more.

GOODS RECEIPTS BOOK

After placing the order with the suppliers, the goods are directly dispatched

to the mill. When the goods arrivals is received in this book. The storekeeper is

responsible for this job.

BIN CARDS

Individual’s card is given for every item in the store. This card has the

receipt, Issues of the material and other relevant information. This is nothing but a

miniature of the stock ledger.

STORES LEDGER

In this ledger the purchase of item issues along Weight the values are

entered. At any point of the time the stock of the store and values are known from

this ledger. In cash of raw material from IV is maintained to know the stock.

The storekeeper must produce a report of stock, its value and given time.

These reports will directly go to the Managing Director. The storekeeper is also

responsible for placing order for items when then order level of the item falls

below the average.

The storekeeper protects this. The storekeeper issues spare parts to all

departments. The spare parts are separated by wise the department and machines.

Mostly the spare parts are purchasing from foreign countries.

QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT

The factory manager/ Technical department and assisted by production

master and assisted production master. The management together with the

production department will decide the plan and other cost factors. The company is

awarded ISO 9001 – 2000 certification. The customer is awarded fixed in the

standard. The customers are motivated according to the norms fixed in the

standard. It is the policy of the company to sell the “Right Product to Right

Customer” and hence the company does not face any problem in Quality defects

form its products.

The production clerk receiver the daily production details and maintains it

in a register.

The register is called RG – 1 register. The productions of all the three shifts

are recorded in this register. The production clerk prepared daily production

statement. This statement is sent to the Managing Director, factory manager and

other officers concerned.

QUALITY MAINTAIN

Quality is imposed right from the selection of raw material. The main

function of this department is to control and monitor the quality of raw material is

as well as the finished product.

COMPUTER SECTION

The computer section is controlled by system manager (ACCOUNT &

EDP). The mill has large centralized computer system. The mill has one file server

and 15 nodes. Each is connected with its own local pointer. All the computers are

connected to the file server through cables UTPCATS cables via, HUB. The

accounts fed the day to day transaction in the computer and all data are centralized

at the file server. The system manager then generators the required reports in

accordance with the data fed to all computers.

The whole office is air conditioned not only to avoid dust and but also to

keep the employees always to feel fresh and fireless. Because of having such a

good. Efficient and fast computing systems. The computer stands NO.1. India first

fully automatic and hygienic gram flow processing units.

STOPPAGES

During the process of production the machine will be stopped for some time

for various reasons. These know of stoppage the stoppage will result in the loss of

production. The reasons for those stoppages are described below.

1. For cleaning the machine.

2. Repairs and maintenance.

3. Electric faults.

4. Wants of labors.

5. Doffing.

6. Count changing.

7. Power failures.

8. Generators changing over.

9. Other maintenance requirements.

When the daily production is decreased, then there should be a problem behind it.

Sales Department plays a vital in the company. The cost factors are

received from the production department and other marketing costs are added and

then sales price is fixed.

Marketing officers looks after marketing of yarn. Under him here are three

officers. Then yam produced at the mill is sold directly to the customer as well as

through their brokers at Thirupur and Erode, Tiruchengode, Sankari, Pallipalayam.

The company also appoints consignment agents at Mumbai, who will sell the

products on behalf of the company. The mill also sells its products to the foreign

countries through brokers at Coimbatore and Mumbai (otherwise called merchant

exporters) and they are paid commission in according to the volume of sales.

For every trading concern maximization is a must thing. There are two

options for firm to increase its profit. One is sales promotion and the other is

washer control and cost control.

The first one is implemented by effective business and the executive and

workers of the company implement the second one.

INTRODUCTION

Labour welfare work aims at providing such service facilities and amenities

as would enable the workers employed in factories to perform their work in

health, congenial surroundings conducive to good health and high morale. Hence

every organization has to provide welfare measure to their labourers as per the

law. in the same way Nandi Dall Mills also has adopted various measure s for

the welfare of the labour welfare work may be statutory. Voluntary or mutual.

Apart from that it also non –statutory in order to motivate the workers.

1. STATUTORY MEASURES

The company takes every necessary step to keep the factory and the

entire surroundings to be clean and sanitary condition. The sweepers and

scavengers keep the premises clean in charge of maintenance there are proper

From the study the researcher came to the conclusion that the Employer

Employee relationship is cordial in NANDHI DALL MILLS, the company has not

met a simple stricken or locked.

The study revels that almost all the Employees satisfied with the welfare

facilities provide by NANDHI DALL MILLS. Now thecomany has some draw

backs regarding transport facility, training and development program’s ect..,

But it can be rectified through the proper implementation job satisfaction is a

variable in the area of Organization behavior research and practice that has held

ground for a rather long period of the in view of its pressure positive

contribution towards the outcome variable of Organization relevance, such as

productivity, absenteeism and turnover.
