Contemporary Diagnosis and Management of Adults with Congenital Heart Disease

May 21, 2016 • 8am - 4pmLi Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge, Stanford, CAA Continuing Medical Education Conference Presented by the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Pediatric Cardiology at the Stanford University School of MedicineSponsored by the Stanford University School of Medicine

Topics Will Include: • Atrial Septal Defects and Pulmonary Hypertension • Risk Stratification for Sudden Cardiac Death in

Adults with Congenital Heart Disease • Outcomes in Tetralogy of Fallot• What to Expect When an Adult Congenital Heart

Disease (ACHD) Patient Arrives in Your Clinic • Interactive Case Presentations

on Congenital Heart Disease

Overview

Program (subject to change)

Statement of NeedThis symposium seeks to increase the knowledge of pediatric and adult physicians in contemporary diagnosis and management of adults with congenital heart disease. It is geared toward practicing adult and pediatric cardiologists, internists, pulmonologists, high-risk obstetricians, and hospitalists who are seeing their pediatric CHD patients transition to adult-oriented care. Topics will include: atrial septal defects and pulmonary hypertension, risk stratification for sudden cardiac death in adults with congenital heart disease, outcomes in Tetralogy of Fallot, and what to expect when an adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) patient arrives in your clinic. The symposium will utilize lectures, case presentation, and panel discussions to optimize learning.

Learning ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:• Determine when to use the following tools to help risk stratify Adult Congenital

Heart Disease (ACHD) patients presenting with Tetrology of Fallot (TOF)• MRI mass/volume measurements• Ventricular stimulation function test • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing

• Develop an evidence-based management plan for patients with moderate and complex congenital heart disease.

• Recognize adults with moderate and complex congenital heart disease (CHD) who require consultation or referral to a specialty center for optimal management

• Review appropriate selection of anti-coagulation therapy for prevention of stroke in patients with congenital heart disease

Target AudienceThis regional conference is designed to meet the educational needs of community adult and pediatric cardiologists, internists, pulmonologists, high-risk obstetricians, hospitalists, nurses and other allied health professionals who care for patients with ACHD.

AccreditationThe Stanford University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
