Who we are At Buckinghamshire Mind Safe Haven, we incorporate national Mind’s values to support our working practices, meaning we are:

OpenWe are open to people when they need us. We accept self-referrals and you do not need to have had previous contact with Buckinghamshire Mind or Adult Mental Health Services to access Safe Haven.

TogetherWe're stronger in partnerships. We have continually built upon our partnership with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, and Safe Haven exists under this partnership. We feel that by collaborating we can better meet the needs of individuals in our community that need our support most.

ResponsiveWe listen, we act. Feedback from our service users told us that during a mental health crisis they wanted a place to go for support during the evening; somewhere non-clinical that they could feel comfortable and safe.

IndependentWe speak out fearlessly. We really listen to the views and opinions of the people who access our services. We use this feedback to develop our own services and bring about positive change within our local authorities.

UnstoppableWe never give up. We have been supporting our local community for over 100 years, and we are continually developing our services to reach out to those who need us.

Our BrandBook

What we do Welcome to Safe Haven, part of Buckinghamshire Mind, the mental health charity.

We deliver high quality community-based services across the county of Buckinghamshire.

We offer short-term intervention to people while they are in a mental health crisis, as an alternative to A&E. We understand that a mental health crisis can be a frightening and sometimes lonely experience. We are here to let you know that you are not alone.

We provide listening support, signposting and safety planning in a welcoming and supportive setting. We also understand that people sometimes want a place to just ‘be’ during a mental health crisis, and that’s fine too.

Working with national Mind, we will not give up until everyone in the county with a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

To see some of the positive feedback we’ve had from our past and present Safe Haven service users please visit the Safe Haven page on our website www.bucksmind.org.uk/services/safe-haven

How we work There are several ways you can spend your time with us at Safe Haven:

• Talking with other service users who have similar experiences and taking part in crafts and games in our group room

• Doing individual activities such as crosswords and colouring

• Accessing one-to-one support including listening support, signposting, and safety planning in our separate one-to-one room We feel it’s important to empower the individuals who access Safe Haven. We do this by helping you to identify ways that you may be able to cope if a future crisis occurs, although that’s not to say we aren’t here if you need us. We can also help you to identify local community organisations that may benefit you.

At Safe Haven we have your best interests in mind, and we want to provide the right support for you. We work in partnership with other mental health organisations and information will sometimes be shared between agencies involved in the person’s care. However, we would only disclose information without your consent if we had very serious concerns for you or someone else.

We may ask you for feedback about your experience of Safe Haven. We use this to help improve and develop the service we provide. If you feel there is anything we can do better, please let us know!
