Principal’s News

Welcome back to the start of another term, it seems almost impossible that it is already halfway through October. I hope everyone enjoyed the school holidays and are ready for what is traditionally a very busy time for our students with year excursions, yearly examinations and end of year celebrations. On behalf of the students and staff I would like to wish Year 12 all the best in their upcoming HSC examinations which commence this Thursday. The first exam for our students will be English and the final exam on the 11th November will be Design and Technology. We look forward to hearing how well they all go. Congratulations to our incoming school student leaders who were announced at the end of last term. I look forward to working with this terrific group of young people and to have them help lead ongoing changes for students and our school: Julia Wright, Santiago Tapim (Captains), Alana Smith, Marshall McKay (Vice Captains) and Ashlee Hampton, Angus Clark (Student Leaders). Thank you to all the parents and guests who attended the two formal assemblies at the end of last term. It is fantastic to be able to welcome everyone to such events and to have you share in the successes of our students. Well done to all of our students who were successful in the various competitions at the Canowindra Show. In particular I would like to congratulate Bridie O’Connor on being named the Junior Miss Showgirl 2019. It was wonderful to hear of all the student’s involvement and success. Over the holidays our new PDHPE shed was completed. The new shed, located at the between the hall and the oval will be for the storage of all our outdoor PE equipment.

Canowindra Show Canowindra High School was well represented in many areas and events at the recent Canowindra Show. Congratulations to Bridie O’Connor who was named Junior Showgirl on the day, as well as Iris Cuddy, Matilda Cramp and Charlotte Burling, who also entered the competition. The girls assisted throughout the show in various ways, including helping to sash the winners of many of the events. Darcy Merchant was named champion judge in the beef cattle junior judging section, while Julia Wright and Bridie O’Connor placed 3rd and 5th respectively. Well done girls! Dylan Slattery, Jesse Windus and Clancy Duguid led and paraded sheep for many of the local studs and were commended for their abilities in handling the sheep, as well as for their willingness to get in and help out where needed. Good job boys! The Ag Farm had some produce on display and were unlucky not to take home a win in the eggs section, with the judge cracking a double yolker and making a special mention, which was stuck to the exhibit, about the size of the eggs. Mrs Parker.

Thanks to the Canowindra Showgirl Competition Facebook page for the photos of the Junior Showgirls (printed with permission).

Canowindra Open Gardens Day

Saturday 26th October 9am-4pm

$25.00 for 6 gardens (children under 18 years free) Tickets available at all gardens

The P & C's annual Open Gardens Day is coming up and we need your help! This is our biggest fundraiser for the year and we have some fantastic gardens for people to come and see. Thanks to those people who are already helping either before or on the day! We still however need more helpers. Here are some ways that you can help:

we are still needing some volunteers (students, staff and parents) to help on the day. We need people to sit at gardens for half a day or to help us at the school where morning tea and lunch will be sold.

baking of either sweet or savoury is needed so that we can sell this at the school during morning tea and lunch.

These need to be delivered to the school before the end of school on the Friday or to the school on Saturday morning.

Please contact Bronwin Lay on 0488010453 if you can help. We look forward to hearing from you!
